Err... I think the Tax Free goods actually need to be use outside EU... different country's custom works differently, it also depends on the 'stamping' officer attending to you...

A: All taxable goods that are exported in your personal baggage. Goods should be sealed and unused. See Local Refund Rules for a list of goods that are exempt in each country.

A: Yes. Without export validation (a Customs stamp), you cannot get a refund.

Q: Can I use the purchased goods before export?
A: Customs request that all goods are sealed and unused. If they check your goods, they may refuse to export validate your Tax Free form if they see that goods have been used.

Possibly not. The customs officer's consideration is that you may have swapped the product, potentially resulting in a new product being resold in his/her jurisdiction without duties paid.

me and my frens each bought 1 and used the luggages on the way back to sg and we all managed to get the refunds (exiting munich and berlin)..

My friend bought a Standard Topaz 30+ inches at 600 Euros in Munich.
Checked out the same thing in Bangkok for 1.2k SGD
Problem is the VAT refund. Germany GST is at 17% but Globalblue commision rate 50% so you'll probably only get half. My friend cannot claim as he left from a non-EU country (swiss) so you might want to take extra note.

Edit: came across this http://www.globalblue.com/customer-services/tax-free-shopping/refund-calculator/ if you can go through an option without using global blue, its darn reasonable. Have not been to a German airport though.

Is it possible to get full 19% VAT refund in Germany?

I read the flyertalk forums, they say you must let the customs chop the receipt, then on your next visit to the country, bring the receipt back to the store and get the full 19% refund

Is that accurate? I've never done this before.

I bought a Rimowa cabin Topas at the Lufthansa store at Frankfurt airport and could only claim 11% back because of the stupid Global blue crap.

I've never carry tumi so i dont know. why i dont like rimowa because of 2 reasons ( all the tiongs are carrying it, and for the aluminum one they are so heavy, about 4kg for a cabin luggage. siao one. to me luggage itself must be as light as possible so that i can put more things)

Well, from my personal experience, usually the customs officers will request to see 1-3items of your purchase goods. if you have a bunch of receipts for refunds,most of the time, they will request you to show them 2-3items that are the most expensive. I have bought a couple of rimowa suitcase during different trips, and use them on the way back. Never been asked to see my rimowa as my wife always have bags purchases that cost way more than the rimowa. So usually, she show them those purchases as per requested by them.

If your rimowa is the only purchase or the most expensive purchase on the trip where you are going to request for refund, it could be more risky for you.

Generally the US is cheaper for most items but SG has some cheap ones at less than $100. The brand is different though.

There used to be a luggage shop (not the Lufthansa one) in Frankfurt airport that gives full tax refund. Not sure if it's still there or moved though. Though the range not as huge as normal shops.
If I remember correctly the difference between sizes is not a lot, around 20-30 eur per size up or down.
But really worth getting in Germany compare to SG.

Got my salsa 29" at ~380 eur pretax I think.
SG selling ~ 1000sgd.
