Mobo finally gave up after a good 8 years.

Looking back, it showed signs of failure for a week or 2. My previous rock solid 4ghz OC became unstable. But I simply up-ed the voltage and switched to my 4.5ghz profile instead.

It then started to randomly fail to POST. But a cmos reset or switch to 2nd bios solved it.

Eventually it just stopped working with error code 23.

Tried resitting everything and changing cmos battery already.

I have more or less stopped gaming. Will probably not upgrade my 970 until it breaks too.

Looking at performance of modern stuff. It seems even a ryzen 3 at stock out performs my 2500k. Planning to keep everything except mobo, cpu and ram.

To OP, sorry to hear about your mobo, but I don't think it's worthwhile to get a replacement mobo as the 2500K (4C/4T) is getting kinda long in the tooth. IF it were a 2600K/2700K, then perhaps can look into a mobo replacement.

My SB-E 3960X still going strong after all these years (built rig Dec 2011, Jan 2012 IIRC), mobo is the Rampage IV Extreme, so perhaps that's why still going strong.

You managed to squeeze 8 years out of mobo is very impressive liao!

My ASRock only lasted for 5 years. Then i bought a replacement gigabyte 1155 mobo now 3 years and counting.

I recommend that you get a replacement mobo to reuse all your parts since you no longer do gaming. It is more cost effective and environmentally friendly

Haha bro. We almost same. I sold off my i5 2500non K recently. And also my gtx 970.

Moved my 16gb ram to my wife's pc and dumped the rest of my 2011 rig

my asrock h81 only lasted 3yrs before the pcie stopped working

now running on a Cheap ASUS H81 Board (1yr plus liao)

I still have my 3 I5-2500K PCs serving me and my Family. They are all slightly over clocked to 4.3Ghz @1.275v. Using different mobos. EVGA z68FTW, ASUS P8Z77-VLX, and a GIGABYTE Z68XP-UD3. I upgraded my personal rig to an R7-2700 and frankly dont feel much difference. Maybe I didnt fully utilize my new rig. Anyway if you feel that you will not benefit from upgrading to a new rig, just buy any second hand mobo at carousell, some sellers give personal warranty for your peace of mind.

Quite true! 4C/8T is better than 4C/4T anytime, anywhere! I recall back when the Intel 2xxx CPU's were released, I'd argue for the purchase of the i7 2600K/non-K and higher, while many would argue that the i5 2500K were better OC'ers and there was no need for HT. I'd argue that no matter how well the 2500K OC'ed, you cannot get the extra threads which would be more useful in the long run, but as usual then, kena shouted down by the 4C/4T proponents (in US forums). An OC'ed i7 2xxxK CPU is still quite useful now, even in the near future.

It's a budget board so not certain that you can reach the same OC.

If the CPU is an i7, might be worth salvaging. i5, I would just sell off the CPU and DDR3 and move on to Ryzen.

Previously when my asus mobo died (due to BIOS flashing....), i dropped an email to CDL (distributor of gigabyte) and asked if they have brand new / refurb board for my 2600k.

Refurb board comes with 3 months warranty and getting it from the official distributor gives a peace of mind.

Jonathan at that point of time provided fabulous service and left a very good impression for me.

I vaguely remember it used to be ?Ban Leong back during P67 chipset but then change to something else from the Z series onwards?

why not just get a Zboard from carosuell or aliexpress.
or just email CDL/Avertek/asview/Ban leong and see if they have left over stock

i have a 2500K too as well, running at 4.9GHz stable daily. upgraded to >>>
mobo sold to someone whose i5 suffered the same fate as u. i still have the 2500K and 970 GTX with me .

My sandy bridge still surviving. Hopefully it continues to last.
