Roaming plans for Vancouver

Travelling to Vancouver soon. I have Singtel prepaid SIM and Simba SIM only plans.
Intend to use WhatsApp voice/text and data for internet there. Need advice which Telco roaming plans to buy.

I wouldn't go w Singtel's roaming as its expensive imo, as to SIMBA's roaming don't look like its covered.

Circles Life, Starhub prepaid and lastly local sim card will be much economical. Otherwise, do a search on this forum, should return you multiple results.

Don't think there's much cheap solution for roaming.

SingTel Prepaid: No information about data roaming for Prepaid. Might be discontinued or pay per use.
SingTel Postpaid: ReadyRoam Worldwide 3GB eligible at $30. Double data until 31 Jan. Need to get new line and maybe even on contract, the pricing doesn't make sense.

SIMBA Postpaid: Not under the 57 destinations for free roaming. You've to pay $6/GB (in blocks of $0.06/10MB) for Canada Roaming. Do note that you've to topup the Main Wallet prior to roaming, else you won't get any data there.

M1 Prepaid: M Card Free Roaming not included.
M1 Postpaid: $30 Data Passport tier eligible. Up to 10GB included per billing cycle. However, when you factor in a brand new SIM Only Plan, Data Passport activation charge and Data Passport itself, it doesn't make sense anymore.

StarHub Prepaid: Happy Roaming includes Canada. But the rates ain't that cheap either, assuming you're using it for light tasks. (1GB 3 days $5, or 1GB 7 days $8)
StarHub Postpaid: DataTravel Global eligible. But 2GB $40 or 3GB $50 for 30 days?

Can consider the $50 Starhub PREPAID card which comes with 5GB roaming data and $50 value.

The $50 value can be used to purchase 2x $25 package which gives 2x 4GB roaming data, all valid for 4 weeks, 28 days.

The $50 value will give you a total of 5+4+4GB of roaming data valid for 28 days, or space out the purchase; i.e., buy the package when you run out from the last one. then you get a much longer than 28 days validity.

If you only need data while overseas consider getting a overseas sim card or roaming sim card from shopee ( a lot seller selling sim card for roaming) or Changi recommand (higher price).

This really depends. I'm not familiar with Canada, but in the US, it is incredibly difficult & expensive to get a prepaid local SIM. This is also something that can be done usually after you have cleared immigration & customs & in this age of needing to show entry qr codes & vaccination certs, I think it's a good idea to have at least some data access right upon landing in that country.

I used to be a Airalo users. But not everyone has a device that support eSIM and i have a bad experience with them on my last trip.

I have super poor DATA for the first 5 days on my trip (super slow and data cant connect). After multiple email with their support than found out the eSIM issue to me has a wrong APN setting which cause data issue. Had to manually change the APN.

That's a good point actually. I was not able to use my mobile wifi for a recent trip because it does not support eSIM...

Actually, my SOP whenever have data issues is to check the APN. FWIW, even Airalo's 'How to install' guide will ask you to check that the APN is correct

Plenty of sim which is selling online on qoo10 or shopee to Canada etc .. replying to the person going .. not sure why you need to be sure
When i travel to UK / Spain last dec, i bought local SIM for both coutnries in advance and hassle free

Good Value with Telus?? OK, depending on your needs I guess. Probably is OK if one needs more than just Data, but your initial starting thread says only need data.

Usually get local Pre-paid SIM card is cheaper.

If you have the time to purchase them at the airport. (Those on tour group sometimes not enough time to get from airport).
