rtx 3080 vs 6900xt

If you are into getting a high end graphic card in times like this, I think you should just get whichever is cheaper now. There is no better card in my opinion since these cards trade blows across different titles. Nvidia is still better when it comes to RT, and also the advantage of DLSS for the time being until AMD launch their own DLSS competitor that is hardware agnostic. So if RT is not a priority, I don't think you are losing out much going with the RX 6900 XT. At the current price of the RTX 3080, it is way overpriced when you consider launch day price at around 1.2K and its now in the range of 3x that price.

6900xt is better compared to a 3090 than a 3080 actually and will even beat the 3090 in some cases.
Pure rasterization.

If DLSS, then the radeon loses. But, Fidely FX SR is coming in June (rumour) which might even the playing field in terms of ray tracing.

Honestly, i will say that 80% of people cant tell the difference when ray tracing on or off unless you specifically look for it.

Do consider even the 6800 xt too. The difference is only 10%.

I'll say get the one you can actually buy for the budget you can actually afford. Get the 3090 if money is no object, which I guess not since you didn't list it for consideration.

If you can wait a bit, Nvidia LHR versions of 3080 is launching right around the corner. It may be a little more affordable, but no guarantee.

I think Aftershock have a ready system at around 3999. If shops are selling you the 5800X with RX 6900XT amd 1TB SSD, then the below may be a much better option. Just looking at the specs, the only complain I have with this system is the casing used because its got very poor airflow.

I think Aftershock have a ready system at around 3999. If shops are selling you the 5800X with RX 6900XT amd 1TB SSD, then the below may be a much better option. Just looking at the specs, the only complain I have with this system is the casing used because its got very poor airflow.

And, that doesnt include the 4k,120hz monitor. So, make it $5k.

I actually don't know what is the market price if one is to DIY. Its too crazy to track nowadays with graphic card prices making significant jumps in a month or 2.

I may have misinterpreted, but I kind of get a sense that TS is saying that he found a quote with R7 5800X (likely with motherboard), RX 6900 XT and 1TB of SSD for 3.9K. If that is the case, then the Aftershock full system at 99 bucks more is a no brainer for me.

My recommendation is to get the system and upgrade later when you find a better deal and sell off the Ryzen 7 5800X. As some bros here have shared, Amazon was selling Ryzen 9 5900X at below 800 bucks, and Ryzen 9 5950X at 1148 now. If you try to go to Aftershock's site, the add on to upgrade is not worth it.

In any case, you should consider if you really need the Ryzen 9 chips in the first place. Its been proven time and again that anything more than 8 cores is not utilized in games and especially when you are using 2K monitors. If you have specific need for higher core count, then that makes sense.

You mean from Aftershock? Any upgrades from the base specs to me is quite expensive. Whenever possible, I will try to configure something at base specs, i.e. SSD and RAM, then get it on Amazon which is almost always cheaper.

Can consider getting from there?
3080 not worth it at the current mkt price, especially since the 6900xt will beat it easily, except for raytracing games which personally I don't bother because with DLSS, the image looks less sharp then native resolution.
Another plus point is, 6900xt can oc until similar level as 3090, which makes it even more bang for the buck.

Buy your ram/ssd from newegg as well, much cheaper than local.
