Hi guys, i have been running around regularly without a stopwatch or any app. Always run till the point of exhaustion, short distance (3km) and fast runs.

Would like to make some changes and monitor my performance. Any good and reliable running apps to recommend? Would like to ask fellow runners instead of google. Thanks!

Consider varying your runs. Consider tempo, interval runs etc. Recovery slower runs in between.

i read about 80/20 rules....dont quite understand it...is what you say similar to 80/20? 80% of the time running at 50% capacity, 20% of the time to run at max capacity?

I'd suggest not to invest in a running watch first, maybe later. I just hold on to my phone and use the app, Nike Run Club. So far so good!

After some time as you get better and more into it, then you'll know whether you want a "smartwatch with running features" (Apple Watch) or a "running watch" (garmin).

Something like that. Majority of runs a should be 'easy' according to some experts. Some advocate some time on core/strength training.

A lot depends on what ones objective(s) are.

Early on I used the runzi app. Pretty good stats including cadence and impact which isn't common in other running apps. Currently I'm using NRC also. Think I'll try runzi again.

Freeletics running is pretty good for intervals.

For beginners can consider getting couch to 5k app.

Age: 45.
Avg pace: 6:30/km
Avg run: 8km, 3 times a week.

Never really believe in tiring one self out during jogs. Just enjoy the streaming music from Apple Watch .. try new route as much as possible .. clock mileage via Strava .. soak in the night air.

Afterawhile, my night runs have become a lifestyle/habit, and is really something I look forward to.

thought of getting back to running. what pace should I run at?

Depending on your age and how long since your last ran. I am happy with 7 mins plus per km. I enjoy my jogging routine, thus dun force and stress myself to 6 mins or 5 mins per km.

BTW are u trying to clock or increase your postings??? Almost every thread, u posted. Keep it up, u will over take me within days. :D

Im currently 18, waiting to take on IPPT next year (poly grad), was trying to get back to 10mins for 2.4km (like in NAPFA).

I wanted to reach a wider audience to get a wider response, HAHAHAH Thanks for the encouragement :)

Do a variety of runs to build endurance and speed. Both are needed for your ns. Speed for ippt, endurance for ns training. You're training should help your recovery from training.
