Ryzen 3600 Build Thoughts?

hey guys, tried posting at the PC Rig Recommendations by MoneyFace but was not able to.

Was trying to wait till the gpu prices drops before getting a new rig but my many-year olds rig is looking to fail any time soon so got a quote from a builder based on the following specs.

will be doing some casual gaming mainly mmos and photoshopping but trying to setup the rig in case I need to upgrade the processor and gpu in the future. using back my old gpu till prices are better.

Processor: Ryzen 5 3600
Mobo: ASRock B550M Steel Legend
RAM: ADATA XPG Gammix D20 3200mhz 16GB
HDD: WD Black SN750 512GB
PSU: Superflower Leadex III 750W Gold
Cooler: ID-Cooling SE 224 XT ARGB
Case: Techware Nexus M Air ARGB TG

thought on this setup?

also was thinking if I should change the mobo to MSI Mag B550M Mortar instead which will be +$130.

that should not cost you 1.1k. it should be more around the $700 mark if u are able to procure the parts at the right places. also would highly recommend switching the case for something with more airflow. as for the mobo upgrade, it is up to u if the premium is worth it, as the vrms on the steel legend should be enough for the 5950x (and overkill for a 3600). keep in mind that local stock mortar is extremely overpriced.

Even Intel has managed to pull up their socks recently and improved their IPC, not to mention Ryzen 5000 series

Why get something that has single core performance equal to Skylake

For your use case, and in case you don't upgrade often, I would recommend going straight for a Ryzen 5 5600X. The Ryzen 5 3600 is a decent processor, but falls quite a fair bit behind the 5600X in every aspect, and in some cases, by quite a significant margin. Otherwise, from a cost perspective, you can also consider looking over at Amazon SG and see if they still have Intel Core i7 10700 that is below 400 bucks, i.e. I can find i7 10700F @ 351 SGD. The 2 extra physical cores will be beneficial. You don't need to buy the latest motherboard chipset to go with the old 10700 series. The caveat going this route is that you need to invest in a good cooling solution vs going for the Ryzen 5 5600X.

getting a builder as I have no experience building a rig or maybe i should try it out?
just worried about the warranty and troubleshooting.

comparing with local price list, cost can reduce by about $150 while using pcpartpicker, similar as some parts i might need to get locally. is there any other place I can look at other than Amazon?

really about B55M Steel Legend having compatible issues with Ryzen 5 5600x out of the box and BIOS needs to be updated. is there an alternate mobo I can pair it with? should i look towards MSI?

No need to get AIO water cooler la. Stock will do just fine. I am using 3600. If cost no issue, drop the r5 3600 and go for R5 5600x. Cut the aio cooler also.

If you are getting the Asrock B550M Steel Legend locally, they should have flashed the BIOS to support Ryzen 5000 series right? It is quite odd if not. Otherwise, you can consider the Asus TUF.

Actually for most motherboard purchase locally at SLS, you can request to have them flash the bios for you and to test it out before you take home. They will be more than willing to do it for you. If they don't then go another shop. as what watzup_ken mentioned. you should be considering 5600x instead of the 3600 since it's a new build. as for CPU Cooler, you can get air cooler but you need to have a good airflow case. that will do the trick.

I am not sure what is the price difference between the DR4 3200 vs 3600, but if the gap is small, I do recommend going for the 3600 RAM. In addition, I am not sure how hardcore you are when doing photoshop, so you may want to consider bumping the RAM up to 32GB either by getting 2x 16GB or 4x 8GB. The motherboard should support 4x ram anyway.

got the above setup and was delivered 2 days ago.
everything is running well and temp is good, though considering change the fan arrangement by adding in some case fans just in case.
