I don't get it. I bought a Samsung LA32R81BX 32" LCD TV only 3.5 years ago and yesterday it died. The entire screen is displaying a white image. I have done all the necessary checks and have concluded that the TV is faulty.

Called Samsung and the 3-year warranty has expired. Cost to repair varies from 250+ to 500+. With the cost of a new 32" being about 600+ or less, what's the point?

I don't buy a TV to last me only 3.5 years. I buy it to last me 5 years and more and am very disappointed that the Samsung TV has died just like that after such a relatively short period of time. Does anyone else have similar experience with Samsung TVs?

Seriously, now I need to find a replacement and have no idea where to look. All I know is that I definitely staying away from Samsung TVs from now on. How is Sony LCD TVs these days?

My Sharp LC32 LCD tv just committed suicide too. The LCD panel is gone as confirmed by the Sharp technician.

Worse than your Samsung because its only 2.5 years old. And even sadder is its still under warranty but Sharp guarantees the panel for only 1 year.

So stay away from Sharp. Even they don't have faith to warrant their panels for the 3 full years.
All their marketing gimmick about the panels made in Japan. Doesn't seem to help the reliability.

Yeah, of course luck plays a part.

With regard to Sharp, it's just ridiculous, the Sharp set is under warranty but the panel is not covered. And the Sharp is so under utilised - 1 - 2 hrs per day only.

Why can't Sharp give a full 3 year warranty like all the other brands? I would think this would be a strong reason not to buy Sharp again.

eh how they determine is the panel spoilt? It could be some other parts spoilt but they blame it on panel? as well give 1yr warranty for whole tv. :s22:

TVs made these days are not engineered to last 10yrs like the CRTs 10yrs ago.. so i see no point spending lots of $$$ on a TV hoping that it will last 5-10yrs.. moreover technology changes and prices will continue to drop over time..

That's why when i plan to buy led tv that cost 4-5k, i really make sure the tv is worth enough for that amount.
How the money earn also one of the factor. i really know for sure some of colleagues and friends, earn their money quite/ very easy.
for them $3-4k for burn every 2-3 years for tv is ok or can say nothing effect at all.
it is not because of their salary is very high but because the job is super relax and the time is quite short (4.5 days, 8hr/ day, 21 days leave, salary range $3.5-4k)

ok back to topic again, I also worried when buy tv that already not in catalog/ their website.
my experience at best denki is buy panasonic 4 fan $160/ each, delivery in 1 day. found out the 1 of the fan is a a lot of dust, it is confirm the fan is use in the showroom. after fight in telephone, got change in 3 weeks for a fan that cost $160.

I really sad why people do like that, just want earn more few hundred/ thousand, but cheat other people by give the display set as a brand new set.
of course electric item have warranty. but it is worth buy 4-5k tv after/ before 1 year need to repair or worst die in 3-4 year?

yes, luck is 70-75% factor in everything in our life :D

I have exactly the same problem as TS, same samsung model, TV also died just after the 3 yr warranty and Samsung service centre quoted high price to repair. On the other hand, i have another panny 32" LCD bought in 2006 still going strong.

Definitely no Samsung for me anymore.
