my 42" Sharp LCD died within 2 years of usage. The panel is faulty as verified by the technician. Now waiting for HN to get back to me on the compensation as it is guaranteed under their extended warranty.

true that things ain't really built to last these days. but also depends on what is it. the tv failing after 3yrs maybe is quality problem, maybe is sueh. but to have the perspective that tv is meant to be changed every 3yrs, i find it unacceptable. small things ok, but tv is a "major" appliance. you don't go change your fridge, washing machine or aircon every other year right?

guess nowadays electronics not build to last, warranty over, problems come soon, so a consumer will rather buy a new one as old ones are costly to repair and parts rae scare too.

who knows, they have a timer to spoil the device after warranty period.

also i much depends on the usage of the tv

I don't get it. I bought a Samsung LA32R81BX 32" LCD TV only 3.5 years ago and yesterday it died. The entire screen is displaying a white image. I have done all the necessary checks and have concluded that the TV is faulty.

Called Samsung and the 3-year warranty has expired. Cost to repair varies from 250+ to 500+. With the cost of a new 32" being about 600+ or less, what's the point?

I don't buy a TV to last me only 3.5 years. I buy it to last me 5 years and more and am very disappointed that the Samsung TV has died just like that after such a relatively short period of time. Does anyone else have similar experience with Samsung TVs?

Seriously, now I need to find a replacement and have no idea where to look. All I know is that I definitely staying away from Samsung TVs from now on. How is Sony LCD TVs these days?

My 32N71 still going strong after 4 years. Samsung N series were high end models, maybe more lasting than the entry level R and S.

TVs made these days are not engineered to last 10yrs like the CRTs 10yrs ago.. so i see no point spending lots of $$$ on a TV hoping that it will last 5-10yrs.. moreover technology changes and prices will continue to drop over time..

quite agree with this statement.
buy one tt suits the eye and budget, as one yr later, u will feel its so much of a old model aldy

can work within warranty period shld be happy aldy

Mine- Samsung LA32A330 died just today. it was less than 3 year. hope i can find my warranty card. I found a lot of similar cases in net with LA32R81.
I should not have fall into the salesman trap with freebies. Next i will NOT go for Samsung at any cost.
If expected life span is around 3 year i would prefer Akira.

wow why so many samsung LCD died?

my old samsung CRT slimfit 29" tv is still working at 100%

i think got 5 years liao.

recently gave it to my uncle when I bought a sony ex600.

but when I first got my CRT, the motherboard spoilt very early, like within 2 months of me getting it as a free gift from Starhub when I signed on maxonline.

Life expectancy of washing machines are declining as well. Understand your point but as manufacturers are under pressure to reduce costs, production is moved from Europe and Japan to China and other Asian countries. Perhaps there's a move to lower cost parts which is part of the problem.

For TVs a lot of consumers are not keeping their sets for years due to the speed of technology changes. Whereas for CRTs the changes were much slower.

My Sharp LC32 LCD tv just committed suicide too. The LCD panel is gone as confirmed by the Sharp technician.

Worse than your Samsung because its only 2.5 years old. And even sadder is its still under warranty but Sharp guarantees the panel for only 1 year.

So stay away from Sharp. Even they don't have faith to warrant their panels for the 3 full years.
All their marketing gimmick about the panels made in Japan. Doesn't seem to help the reliability.

ya, many people never notice Sharp and Sony panel only cover for the first year.
