I rmbr reading somewhere. When this film released in Germany or something some of the people dubbing it into German were veterans & dropped out because of the realism.

Apparently in USA also there was an increase in counselling calls from veterans or something cause the scene brought back PTSD

When one bullet hit your shield, you will fly... You must understand the impact of the MG.

That's not how real life physics works. You don't fly when a bullet hit you. It pass through you and you drop down. Forward down due to your center of gravity.

Everytime I watch that scene, I ask why US don't want to use a big bullet proof large shield when they step out of that boat? First 3 ppl hold the shield for the group.

And why they don't want land at night when visibility is poor...

Bullet proof shield weight between 13 to 22kg. It won't protect you from mortars and artilleries. Artilleries and mortars are the main threats. The best way to survive is get out of th water and beach as fast as possible.

The d-day assault was well planed. That's why it was successful. Attackers out numbered defenders 6 to 1.

The invasion was needed on the western front to relieve pressure from the Soviet union in the Eastern front.

That's quite a simplified version of events.

In reality, the Germans had a clear idea that an attack may come from Normandy. The idea behind their defense was to use the seawall as a holding mechanism, while panzer was mobilised from beyond Allies bombardment range.

Normandy was not on the German top list of where the allies will invade. On d-day German did not think Normandy was the actually invasion point. They believe the Normandy invasion was an ally decoy. They believe the main ally invasion will happen in Pas-de-Calais. Well north of Normandy.

In BOB, the 101st airborne supposed to drop behind the enemy line n take the beach from behind before the landing but their planes were shot, so they scattered all over the place. Didn't fulfil their Misson.

While some of the objectives didn't get completed. The ally paratroopers caused chaos and confusion behind the enemy lines. Relieving a lot of pressure from the main assault on the beach.
