Review: Remax 16GB MicroSDHC Card

pO36o.jpg

For the Christmas eve, today we are going to take a look at a brand that has been up and rising with popularity, making plenty of accessories such as the USB cables and now, microSD cards. Remax or known rather, iRemax, is a sub-brand of Hong Kong Refine Industrial (Asia) Limited. The card we are going to take a look at is their 16GB MicroSDHC Class 10 card.

Remax have been gaining quite abit of popularity here, mainly because of its really low prices. Let us take a look at how well this card performs but first, lets take a look at it physically!

Overall, the speed matches its ratings – mostly above 10 mb/s however, as to the claim of Ultra-Fast, the performance shows that it is far from it. On the otherhand, at it’s price spectrum, the performance is not too bad, however, its reliability might be questionable. Of the 5 cards we purchased, only 2 survived through the tests more than twice. The other 3 just died. Overall the speeds are:

READ – 22373 KB/s

Review: PNY Turbo Performance 64GB High Speed MicroSD (64GB) [2015 Version]

SvXuj.jpg

We are back with the microSD reviews now, focusing on the PNY's newer 2015 TURBO edition, courtesy of Jason who loaned us his card. At the point of the article, this is still available for less than SGD$40. This model, effectively is the replacement for the 2014 edition which we reviewed earlier, so how much of improvement is there? We will get to that in this review!

Overall when compiled into a graph:

Overall, PNY has improved the card by a little bit, with no thanks to the high benchmark set by its predecessor back last year. Performance wise, it is pretty close, though the 50MB benchmark by CrystalDiskMark showed it had a big improvement over that of the older version. That said, read speed has improved and write though, constant. Nonetheless, the speeds are as follows:
Code:
READ: 91206KB/s
WRITE: 54781KB/s

PNY, is the major OEM for HP, however, PNY itself is not big here is Singapore. Powered by an MLC in its heart (like the predecessor), and a current price tag of less than SGD$40, it could be quite a steal. With a lifetime warranty, however, this card seems to be a great price for performance.

Special Note:
We received a few emails and feedback that the crystaldiskmark we are using (3.0.4) is now outdated. Whilst this is true, it should be noted that the new versions after this is using a new algorithm that has really changed the speeds for many cards. As such, to keep the test constant, we are still using the older verison. However, we will and have tested future models with the latest version 5.1.1 below. In addition, we have also plugged it into a new UHS-II enabled microSD card reader to see if there was any performance difference.

Read on in the article for the full details!

very informative thread.

just a suggestion, why not post the actual screencapture than the resized, smaller image? the text look ant size on my screen, I literally have to use a magnifier glass to see them.

Hello

Thanks for the feedback.

As for the image part:
1) We are using the servers here in a local datacenter in sg and do not wish to over tax it at the point of time (yes it is behind a cdn, but for now)
2) Hosting on free image providers - we did before and it didn't work out after a period of time.

Like my older reviews (on Singtel network), I will be pushing out the full quality once I'm free to properly fully configure the new server(s) or tinker with the account limits of the other delivery network later on.

500px works well for many still (unless your on a larger + higher res screen), but rest assured, update for the full res version will come. Expect that to happen somewhere in March, but above all, to ensure content availability, this is the stance till the next stage. :)

Got it, bandwidth is always an issue.

I guess you already know it but its not the image resolution but the filesize that will tax the server. for example, the previous two 24bit PNG were less than 50KB each, if I choose to use only 8 bit of color--256 color are enough for HDT screen shot--each of them is only ~24KB, or about 2KB larger than your resized image.

if I crop out the top and leave only the charts, they will be less than 20KB.
not trying to be a smart alec, just some info. :)

still can keep it... since it free ones if u redeem it using the points :s12::D

True that. Though if I were to buy, I rather take the Gen3 Sandisk Ultra, Lexar (300x), Transcend or even Barun over Samsung.

US prices are similar for the first 3 vs Samsung, but better performance.
