Last year, we reviewed and tested the SanDisk Generation 2 MicroSD card which was the 2014 model. Now, we are back at it again, this time looking at their 2015 model. The key differences here this time, is just the speed bump.

Overall:

With the read at 74MB/s on H2testW and write at 20MB/s, the card lived up to its rated speeds. On the benchmark graph, however, we see some interesting results over the 500mB burst, where the write was consistently above 30MB/s and read above 80MB/s. This results are further backed up by CrystalDiskMark for the smaller sizes though for the 4GB, it started to slow down. Random speed also increased over the previous generation.

Note: Model reviewed here is SDSQUNC-128G-GN6MA

This looks good

Review: Memorette (memento) EXpert (128GB) microSDXC Card

dD15e.jpg

Memorette, was one of the first card manufacturers that we reviewed on, back in 2014. Well, now that they have come out with the 128GB series for their EXpert line, let us see how well this is worth. It is also worth noting that, at this point of time, it is literally one of the cheapest, if not cheapest, 128GB microSD available.

All in all, the card performs pretty well sequentially, with actual performance close to the given specifications and even exceeding (READ speed) it. However, that cannot be said for the much slower random speed which makes it pretty much a NO-NO for mobile devices. A similar characteristic card is the Samsung Evo 128GB. Hence, if your looking to use a 128GB card for your mobile device, at this point of time, we highly recommend you to consider the SanDisk Ultra instead. Powered using TLC NANDS and at a price point of less than SGD$50 inclusive of delivery right now, this microSD is one of the cheapest card you can really get in the market.

I just received a pair of 200GB Sandisk microSDs and thought I would post some quick benchies. The read speed lived up to the advertised 90MB/s. As expected, the write speed was nothing fantastic though the 15+ MB/s speed is sufficient for HD video recording.

2 of what? Please clarify your query

Also to add, thumbdrives might phase out in the near future. MicroSD is used to store more data and as replaceable memory in thumbdrives.

Wow....I still find thumbdrive more convenient. Though I store all my data in portable external harddisks.

SanDisk Ultra is a good choice.

Huh? What does memory space got to do with play speed?

Review: Kingston Class 10 UHS-I (64GB) microSDXC Card [SDC10G2]

830d1460188006-microsd-use-let-the-benchmark-show-jquax.jpg

Card manufacturers are always improving their line up of memory cards and we have seen that from SanDisk, whom have kept their card brand/series constant whilst refreshing and improving on it. Now Kingston is on it too, with their latest microSD refresh for their standard card line up. In this case, they now have omitted the maximum write speed, but rather, only highlighting its maximum read speed.

.
In summary:
Q8JI.jpg

TQtSW.jpg

Overall, as we can see, despite the overall bump in speed, the consistency of the write is not there – it just keeps fluctuating. The read, however, has more or less been consistent, hitting the rated speeds. However, throughout the sustained read/write test by h2testw for the whole nand on the card yielded interesting results – only 54.5Mb/s for read.
Anyway, the overall speeds are:
Code:
81495 KB/s – READ
21640 KB/s – WRITE

Whilst the sequential speed being bumped up, the (well, horrible) random performance of the predecessor, however, is still being carried over here and there is no significant improvement at all. As such, should you be deciding to use this card for mobile purposes, it is our recommendation to stay away from it, although, for sequential use purposes such as storing of large files or taking photos using a camera, this card is still fine.

I would need some help on recommendation please.

- 32GB
- Performance but still within the value range (not to the extend of Sandisk Extreme or Samsung Pro family)
- Phone usage (does it mean 4k random r/w is more important?)

Now not sure getting either Sandisk Ultra(SDSQUNC, 80MB/s advertised read) or Samsung Evo+. Or is there similar priced but better performance cards out there? Both cards should be around $15 to $17 now.

Thanks in advance!
