Why isn’t your company issuing you a proper company liable card for your business trips? Have you asked? You’re performing official company duties, and it’s their hotel bill to figure out how to pay. That’s the correct answer, not to incur even one dollar of personal credit liability (secured or otherwise) for a company trip in these circumstances (DMP).I am currently on DMP and was thinking of applying for a secured credit card as my business trip will require a credit card as deposit at check-in.
If it’s a small company — let’s suppose it’s a two person company, with a more senior head of the company — then one option he/she has is to issue you a supplementary charge card (such as an AMEX charge card) with a separate (lower) sublimit. Note that’s charge card, not credit card. A charge card extends credit and thus is very similar to a credit card, but it requires payment in full every month. The other person is responsible for the bill to the card company, and you are responsible to that person that you only use the card for legitimate, approved business travel. AMEX is a good choice for these purposes — and a very popular business travel card choice — because it’s accepted widely enough for business travel but is not too widely accepted.
In short, even if you could do this (doubtful), it's absolutely crazy for you to extend your (damaged) personal line of credit to your employer, especially since you are an unsecured creditor to your employer if there's ever any dispute or employer insolvency. If your employer wants you to travel on official business, it needs to provide you with the proper tools for the job. It's just that simple.
