So many things HAHAHA, I'm confused. Perhaps I could get the HD600, plug into my pc, listen to it. If it's too soft then I get the amplifier? I already amazed by the HD600 from a Samsung JX.

See? You've come out with the best answer to your own question. Try it with your mobo audio first (assuming mobo supports all the audio formats that are of interest to you), if it gets loud enough then you can put off purchasing an amp or DAC stack/combo....until you get the urge to upgrade. My audio setup below, Oppo HA-1 + HD600, HFM HE4XX, EnigmAcoustics Dharma D1000...

Same, recently just bought HD650 pairing it with jotunheim multibit and audio engine a5+ with S8 setup.

May I know what connection u are using for your headphone ? (1/4 or xlr 4 pin?) and what connection you are using for your speaker? (RCA ? or ?)

xlr 4 pins for headphones, and xlr 3 pins for speakers.

thing to note is that I'm using AK4490 DAC MODULE with my jotunheim, which is designed to be balanced. this result in a balanced input to a balanced output.

since you are using the multibit addon instead, i'm not too sure if it's designed to be balanced. if it ain't, i don't see the value of using a balanced output, since the input isn't balanced. just my 2 cents.

I much prefer IEMs. Perhaps headphone is best suited for aircond environment? Would like to know your own experience.

If u already have the headphones, i would suggest to bring down and try out. Sometimes, you may not hear the difference and may wonder if it will be worth it or not. Coz cables and all are very very subjective.

not sure about other headphones but my d2000 can get real bothersome to keep it on within an hour of using it in typical singapore ambient temperature

i'm not exactly a believer in cables... i would rather spend the money on better equipment. the only criteria that i have for cables is that they must be well built, and where possible, grounded or balanced. the theory is the same as using shielded ethernet cables running over possible interference - you wanna reduce the amount of interference as much as possible.

Have you tried open-back headphones with velour pads? Those are super comfy and feels like your ear is resting on 2 pillow. I can wear it for 8 hours or longer without taking if off and no sweat at all. No air con also. Super comfy. When I use closed back headphones with leather earpads those will be super uncomfortable after few hours of usage will tend to sweat on the leather earpads. Went for open back headphones with velour pads and never look back. Super comfy can wear for long hours (8 or more). And with the lessen clamping force it feels like your not wearing anything at all.

Earbuds I feel its not as comfortable compare to velour headphones because the earbuds I feel quite uncomfortable after long hours of usage due to it sticking in my ear canal can feel not comfy and headache after long hours.

Headphones still my preferred choice. Earbuds more for short 1-2 hours out door usage.

It’s important to note that using a balanced cable on an unbalanced signal gives you no benefits. The jacks on the gear on both ends of the cable must be designed for balanced signals as well; otherwise there’s no circuitry to do the polarity inversion that produces the noise cancellation so using balance cable alone would be pointless if you have unbalance gear along the the signal chain.

wow, great. Tks for your answer. Maybe that explains why some pple still stick to headphones. No, never tried 'those open-back headphones with velour pads' before. If it is really comfortable for long listening, I would be tempted to try. May I know what headphone are you using?

I'm using the ancient already more then 5 years old audio-technica ath-ad500 (discontinued model) and also the ath-ad700x. Both are open back headphones and comes stock with velour pads. Super comfy headphones.

Also own the ancient old ath-m50, takstar pro 82 these headphones will tend to sweat after 30mins-1hour so have to take it off and cool down abit. Will also occasionally grab the superlux hd668b or the samson sr850 for a listen as those headphones sound superb as well.

Some other headphones that are open back and comes stock with velour pads are the sennheisser hd600, hd650, ath-ad1000x ad2000x to name a few.

The sennheisser hd600 hd650 can work without an amp but if you want it to sound louder or want to unleash its full potential better to buy a good dac/amp to go with it. But it can be use straight out from mobile phone or pc motherboard audio no problem. Just that the volume might tend to be soft as its a 300ohm impedance headphones which is quite hard to drive.

I tend to like open back headphones more because they sound more open with really good soundstage. The mids and highs are superb also compare to close back headphones. The sound will feel more distance and open.

However, if you preferred big bassy sound then should stick with close back leather pads headphones those will sound more bassy due to the leather pads and the closed back nature of the headphone.

Agreed, you might need serious source and gear to hear a difference (if any at all), not a believer of cables myself though I'd gotten EA Thor Silver, a couple of ALO SXC8's for my Fitear Parterre and CA Jupiter.....mostly IEM cables. Been told IEM's, due to their construction, respond positively to better cables (much to my surprise, I hear a difference between the standard Litz cable that came with my Jupiter vs ALO SXC8). For headphones, I do get after market cables, just not expensive ones, more for Balanced mode.

I had gotten a <150SGD Balanced cable for my HD6XX (the Balanced cable on my HE4XX is from my HE1000).

Same cable on my HD600....
