ok feitz thanks for the additional info on the hard reset it was my bad.

Ok this is really a very very weird situation. I could get it to connect after i restore factory settings of my router, setting it to PPPoE mode.

I tested powering down my router and modem and turn it on again. And i am back to square one. Only after factory resetting it again only can i be connected zzzz.

If you're using wireless, set WEP or WPA.

hmmm i am using both wired and wireless. As in i have 2 coms. One is wired and the other wireless. IIs it because there is 2 DHCP servers(one wired and the other wireless one) and thus causing a conflict.
The Wireless DHCP server could not be turned off from what i see.

There's only one DHCP server in your router dishing out the IP address to both your computers.

Make sure to set your computers to obtain IP address automatically.

If your wireless is not protected, your neighbours can mess around with your router and steal your bandwidth.

Yeah i know. I am still trying to find out why after i shut off the modem and router together and turning back on i could not connect up. But once i restore factory settings on my router only and setup my wireless and stuff later i could surf once again zzzz. I did save all my settings in the router.

Would like to ask if the previous firmware of the modem is working perfectly if so i would like to downgrade.

You must be using WRT54G ver 5,6 or 7. If yes try to upgrade firmware.

If you just switch off the router without proper PPPoE termination, you need to wait 5-8 min for connection timeout at SingTel side.

Hey bros, I am using an ST536v6 and Linksys WRT54G v7.

Like many others here, I had hit a wall trying to connect to Singnet BB using the Linksys router. Thanks to Diavonex, I finally was able to connect to the Internet after his 16 screenshots. Thank you very much Diavonex!!!!!

A few questions though:
In final screenshot, my laptop did not automatically reboot itself as the Speedtouch wizard was still running, I had to manually close the wizard.
After the reboot, the wizard did not start up to complete the final settings.
1) Why didn't the laptop reboot itself automatically after the final screenshot?
2) What are these final configurations? How do i go about doing these?
3) I understand that the ST536 cannot be accessed via 192.168.1.254 once in bridge mode. Does it mean that I have to change ST536 back to ADSL2 gateway to connect via 192.168.1.254?

Also found out that i need to go to the linksys router webconsole at 192.168.1.1 -> Setup tab -> "Basic Setup" to configure my PPPoE settings -> Status tab -> "Router" -> Click "Connect" to connect to Singnet BB.

I am still connected to the router via my laptop using a WIRED connection. (Have not tested my wireless connection yet).
4) Will the Linksys webconsole's status tab still show as "connected" if I reboot my laptop?

I intend to switch off my router and modem after use to conserve electricity daily.
5) Do I still need to connect to the linksys webconsole and click "disconnect" before switching off?

When I switch on the router and modem to use again next time:
6) Do I still need to connect to the linksys webconsole and click "connect" again?

Thanks in advance for all answers!!!

You may want to re-run the Residential CD again.

It's not necessary to "Disconnect" before turning OFF power.

When you turn ON power again, give the modem & router a minute or 2 to connect.

the router remembers what configurations u have set up before. upon power off and power-on, router reads the configuration and try to connect automatically.

Do a Hard Reset on your ST536 and it will be reset to be in gateway mode once again.

yep.. shame on singnet to try to restrict the modem capability
This modem is NOT crippled!!
The NAT routing feature inbuilt on 536 is still present.
