I am looking to get a prepaid data sim card. Any recommendations on where and which co to get from?

Also can advise the price?

I will be staying in shanghai for a year soon and would love to know about the cost of living there.

Is it reasonable to estimate $5 Sgd a meal? Lets say my hostel cost $500 and for meals, it is 5x3x30(450) and plus misc cost, my monthly expense would be around 1200? Would that be a reasonable figure?

Please help because I do not want to ask for more money from and parents and hope to prep the finance in the coming months. If there are any other hidden cost that might be significant pls also advise me!

You have not included transport and entertainment? Shanghai isn't exactly cheap. I don't think I've ever spent S$5 on a meal. On average it would be S$8 to S$20. It's possible to eat at S$5 (or less) a meal though.

Can lah. eat like a local.. their 盖浇饭or 外卖.or even fast food like MCD or subway, KFC one meal less than SGD5.. but doubt you will not try other food since you are there for a year...SGD5 will not get the quality of food u find in SG except for fast food maybe. check out their prices at www.dianping.com or China's fast food websites

Of course it is possible to get by with $5 a meal. Most students and local workers get by with less. Outlets in the residential neighbourhoods off the main streets have cheaper options. Even local fast food like ZhengGongFu and Dico's don't cost more than $5.

I am not talking about china mobile because our sg phone can only get 2G on china mobile network whereas we can get 3G network on china unicom simcard.

VPN sometimes work sometimes dont work, i also dont know why.. LINE app for example, sometimes can pass thru sometimes cannot..

Taking the Shanghai metro is a breeze..use this website. Just clickthe first station n then for destination, click the station u wanna go. It will showyou the result; how much to pay, time taken n distance. It shows you step by step where to change stations. Very easy!
