People~!

Say Shanghai in January, what should I wear? T-Shirt not enough right? Worst is -6 °C. I never went so cold city before. Need some advise.

I was thinking a windbreaker to do the trick. Any gloves or mask needed? Thanks in advance~!

I don't think a windbreaker will be sufficient at -6°C. Best to get proper winter jacket and some gloves. Don't need mask. As a gauge, I usually wear 1 short sleeve t shirt + 1 sweater + 1 winter jacket and leather gloves @ about -20°C to -30°C.

Think if you intend to bring and wear windbreaker. U need a lot of inner thermal clothing. u need to wear at least 1 set inner wear and 3 shirts plus ur wind breaker. u will look like a bear...

Worst case.... But say for 9 to -6 °C recommended to buy winter wear?

Will I see snow? :D

I have a friend who bought a SGD80 jacket for Shanghai trip in Dec, and he got $80 worth of warmth. If you are one who will feel cold in cinema, libraries etc, suggest you better gear up. If jacket is too costly, then spend on long john.

For me, I feel cold only when below 5 Deg C, with gusts of wind. A jacket, sweater and jeans do the trick for me.

honestly, if you don't even know if you should get winter wear, means you don't know how cold 9 or even -6 is going to be. it's better for you to get winter wear. else you adjust your aircon to 0 and see how much cold u can tolerate.

thermal wear is a must. a down feather jacket is also a must. i've lived in countries where there's winter. and when i travel to places where it's 6 degrees Celsius, i will still wear a wool sweater and a down feather jacket. sometimes if too cold, will wear thermal, wool + down feather jacket.

as for socks, get the thermal type ... so one layer is sufficient. u wear 2 layers of normal socks will not help. and it will also be uncomfortable (if your shoes is not loose enuff)

I think really depends on each individual's tolerance to cold. I used to wear shorts and slippers + t shirt + winter jacket (non down) to shovel the snow on my driveway when it was -6 degrees. And a couple of us would wear just t shirts and shorts to play soccer when it was 6 degrees. But I do agree with you that it's always better to err on the side of caution, especially for someone who has never experienced winter before :)

Shanghai gotta be careful.. many places do not have heater units... so when it's cold it's COLD! ...
You can get sick and miserable if you are not careful.. better bring enough fleece, downs.. and good quality winter wear

In fact I was scouting for winter wear last month and went to UNiqolo... wah i felt their men's winter wear is ugly and thin ended up buying from GAP .. almost same price ...
Marks and Spencer also has pretty good ones...
