There are two speeds maglev runs at.
Check online for the faster train speed.
Something like 440kmh

Be careful of pickpockets at tourist areas.

Nothing really interesting on the pudong side.
All interesting sights are at puxi.

Try their local speciality foods like xiaolongbao, shengjian, sesame noodles, deep fried small fish.

If u drink chinese tea, u can buy some back n they are cheap compared to sg.

U can also go on daytours to the nearby water villages, hangzhou, suzhou and also the wetlands.

Go for cheap massages.

Eat roast duck at the beijing store quanjude

I think 3 days is enough to see most of shanghai.

For 5K RMB/pax, you can actually have even higher quality food in Japan. No such thing as high class foie gras. Foie gras is foie gras.

Some of the non michelin starred restaurants in Japan are very good too! ie. Aronia De Takazawa. The place only has 2 tables and dinner is seriously quite costly (almost 1K for 2 pax)

From Pudong airport into the city:
- Taxi - Expensive
- Metro - Cheap but slower than airport bus, as it has multiple stops along the way.
- Airport bus - Faster than metro as it takes more direct path via expressway into the Shanghai city area. Economical and fast.
- Maglev - Fast as it cuts through the many metro stops. Never taken before though.

For Huangpu area, should be Airport Bus Line 5. Which hotel address in Huangpu? You board the Airport bus either at the bus terminal or one stop before. When you collect your luggage liao, follow the signs for Airport Bus. You can wheel all your barang barang all the way to the end to the bus terminal to board the bus or you can board one stop before (as you walk, keep right and you will see sign indicating that you can board airport bus on the right hand side. Have to go down escalator).

Huangpu to Hongqiao airport, economical way is to take metro. Line 10 takes you directly to Hongqiao airport. Metro map pdf links

For navigation in Shanghai, go and find this application Maps.me on Google Play store or Itunes. Free version is good enough. You can navigate via GPS, no data involved. Just that in free version, you have no search function. Means you have to research your route a little to know where you are going.

For China maps, Baidu maps more accurate. And you can find travel directions on metro and public bus for any address.

Take the maglev to longyang station then take the metro, saves alot of time. If u take just the metro, its probably about 1.5hrs to the citycentre.

Same rules apply for metro, expect to squeeze during morning and evening rush hour. After you squeeze in the subway in China, you'll feel very relaxed in Singapore's metro hehe...

actually its sort of yes and no lah, don't really feel that Shanghai is so much worse than SIN, in terms of kenna packed like sardines. But I believe Beijing subway traffic is really super terok.

having experienced rush hour in SIN, Shanghai, HK and Japan, my opinion is:
1] SIN + HK rush hour traffic is very similar. Even when everyone is very zhi dong and try and squeeze, still really no space. Packed like sardines. But HK subway is better in that the trains will always keep coming in, much faster versus rush hour traffic in SIN.
2] Japan rush hour traffic also very bad, but somehow the feeling is not as bad. Not sure why, just think that somehow people are less pissed even while stuck in rush hour traffic?
whereas in SIN and HK, when ppl are stuck in rush hour traffic, all very black face.
3] Shanghai rush hour traffic, will have unruly people who will keep pushing in. Problem in Shanghai from what I see is that sometimes people in the train very not auto, bu zhi dong, and don't squeeze.
So end up a lot of space wasted. So one side is not so squeezed, but the other side of the train is packed like sardines. Been in both situations.

Just back from Shanghai. Just sharing a few tips:
1) Weather is freezing now. Zero degrees and made worst by the chill wind. Please be adequately dressed.
2) Trying for a cab during peak hours (in fact all hours!) in Shanghai is a nightmare. No taxis will stop even if they are empty. They are all waiting for app booking. For every 7 app bookings, they get extra RMB 20. Download this app 'di di ta zhe' and familiarize with it before u go.
3) Buying a train pass will save u time in queuing up for a tix. 1-day pass is only 18 RMB. 3-day is 45 RMB.
4) Wholesale places like Qipu are selling winter wear, not suitable for Singapore climate. For children stuff, go to Neon Kids Plaza near to Huai Hai Zhong Lu. It's an underground maze of children clothes, shoes and toys.
5) Shanghai is an expensive city. Slightly cheaper than Singapore. Clothes and food are not cheap. Branded stuff are cheaper in Singapore, unless they are on sale. Of course, street food are cheap.
6) M on the bund, Mr and Mrs Bund, Bar Rouge are closed for the winter season. Not sure when they are re-opening again. Phebe 3D club also closed.
7) If you want to experience a water town, but have no time to go out further, you can try QiBao. 20 mins ride by train from the city. Crowded over the weekend with locals and tourists, but u get to experience an 'old town' with traditional food.
8) FB, google, google map, google drive, dropbox can't work in China, when u are using hotel wifi. Only managed to some to work when i use auto-roaming.

For hotel, u can try Ascott Huai Hai Road. Not too bad location, <5 mins from train station. Lots of great food nearby, next to Neon Kids Plaza, mins away from most attractions using the train.
