Just back from Shanghai. Just sharing a few tips:
1) Weather is freezing now. Zero degrees and made worst by the chill wind. Please be adequately dressed.
2) Trying for a cab during peak hours (in fact all hours!) in Shanghai is a nightmare. No taxis will stop even if they are empty. They are all waiting for app booking. For every 7 app bookings, they get extra RMB 20. Download this app 'di di ta zhe' and familiarize with it before u go.
3) Buying a train pass will save u time in queuing up for a tix. 1-day pass is only 18 RMB. 3-day is 45 RMB.
4) Wholesale places like Qipu are selling winter wear, not suitable for Singapore climate. For children stuff, go to Neon Kids Plaza near to Huai Hai Zhong Lu. It's an underground maze of children clothes, shoes and toys.
5) Shanghai is an expensive city. Slightly cheaper than Singapore. Clothes and food are not cheap. Branded stuff are cheaper in Singapore, unless they are on sale. Of course, street food are cheap.
6) M on the bund, Mr and Mrs Bund, Bar Rouge are closed for the winter season. Not sure when they are re-opening again. Phebe 3D club also closed.
7) If you want to experience a water town, but have no time to go out further, you can try QiBao. 20 mins ride by train from the city. Crowded over the weekend with locals and tourists, but u get to experience an 'old town' with traditional food.
8) FB, google, google map, google drive, dropbox can't work in China, when u are using hotel wifi. Only managed to some to work when i use auto-roaming.

For hotel, u can try Ascott Huai Hai Road. Not too bad location, <5 mins from train station. Lots of great food nearby, next to Neon Kids Plaza, mins away from most attractions using the train.

Anything Microsoft works. I OneDrive, Yammer and Bing.

Em it might be quite stupid but do you guys carry a lot of cash over when travelling or just withdraw there? Do y'all just put in the hand-carry baggage?

Any nice n convenient hotel near to Huadong Shifan Univ. which translated to "East China Normal University" located between Jin Sha Jiang Road station and Zhong Shan Park station.
(3663 North Zhongshan Roa, Putuo-ward, Shanghai)?
My 1st trip there to meet a friend. Looking at 4-5 star hotels

Hongqiao airport is always nearer places in the city. Within walking distance there is the JW Marriott Changfeng Park.

Lao Zheng Xing, Fuzhou Road.
You may not be accustomed to the taste, but I am told this is authentic Shanghai food. Large portions.

G train / Bullet train tickets

All the laojiao pls advice as this is my maiden trip to shanghai china..

i am arriving shanghai pudong international airpot on 7th july 1.30pm.
My first stop is to head for Yiwu through Shanghai hongqiao railway by bullet train.

1) I understand that July is china school summer holidays. Is it necessary to prebook railway tics? Where can i buy the tics?

2) I'll have the last 3days (2 full days + 2 nights and half day before my 7pm flight balek kampong singapore) in shanghai. Any recommendation on the must do sights and activities? I intend to go nanjing lu + the bund + oriental pearl tv tower. No idea on night activity as yet too..

3) any recommendation on accomodation ~$100/night range?

Thanks in advance for suggestions :):)

Pudong and Hongqiao are on opposite ends. Takes 2 to 3 hours from Pudong airport to Hongqiao railway station by metro. You have to check traffic condition if you want to take a car/taxi. I took SQ828 and by the time I collected my bags, walked to the metro and got to Song Yuan metro (few stops from Hongqiao), it was 4pm.

Why don't you fly into Hangzhou instead?

You can buy the tickets on ctrip.

That's the French Concession, Taobao City (shopping), Qipu Road (wholesale shopping), Tianzifang (used to like it but changed so much. Visited it 3 weeks ago).

You can also do the touristy things like taking the boat ride/cruise, go up the Tower or go up the Grand Hyatt (free) for the views. There's Yuyuan as well. Go for xiaolongbao at the Yuyuan. But don't go on the weekends. Terribly crowded. Laowai Street may be interesting to a certain extent. Mainly restaurants and bars.

Personally visited 2 of such outlet mall few years back.

One in Qingpu and the other in Songjiang district.... Very far.... More like outskirts Liao.

Both are accessible via their metro followed by the local bus.

IMO... Unless you really have nowhere else to visit in Shanghai, u can consider wasting a day there. Price not really that cheap.

Google is your best friend for more info.
