A shot from Macau with a 50mm lens. Black card method to capture multiple fireworks burst in one frame. Basically to only exposre the fireworks at their burst and cover up when the sparks starts trailing down to avoid streaking. And be choosy on which fireworks you want to expose for

for me i usually shoot in colors. with colors there is more control in BNW conversion especially with selective color channel adjustments.

Taken a picture of my niece just to try out the D3100 i just bought.

I like this picture but it seems a blur. Could it be that i wasnt holding it stable enough because i cant tell the blur on the LCD screen.

Oh dear those are some lovely shots! How do you achieve bokeh of other shapes? I've always wanted to do that! I've just gotten my 550D a week ago, still doing really basic shots!

You can cut the shape of whatever shape you want and put in infront of the lens. That will create the shape bokeh. Can google up Heart shape bokeh i think.

You need a tripod, or at least something to hold the camera steadily.

Other than that, there are software to be used at PP level to achieve similar effect. Of course DIY would be cheaper, and definitely more challenging.

hands not stable enough for the long steady shot

on average we can only go up to 1/10 - 1/30 to maintain our camera. Anything slower = provided you can stop breathing, stop your heart from pumping to cease vibrations and etc

Use tripod and turn off stabilizer/VR

For me i usually do less than 5 min of PP. Common things for me include stitching panos, resizing, cropping, cloning out dust spots, contrast, white balance, sharpening.

Sometimes the shot is just what i need.

Here is a pano taken hand held ( tilted ) , while on a boat. I tried to use the viewfinder grid to best level the horizon while taking the 4 shots that made up the pano.
