So far I went there, not much luck. For the sunset, that time the sun is on the extreme left, got trees there, not open, so composition of shots not nice. :(

I'm using Hitech 4 stops ND filter and ND110.
Didn't use GND though, after HDR and PP found that it rendered the gnd effect. :D
think i wanna get a lower stop ND as well.

10 stops a bit too much for the period when sun is setting. 4 or 6 stops is good?

yeah agreed that the trees at left side kinda spoil composition, which is why i try compose the photos to avoid the trees as far as possible. :(

Depends on how long you want your exposure?
For me I use 30s exposure quite often, so 10 stops ND I use more frequently.
4 stops can do the job but I like longer exposure (feel that the cloud effect is nicer), so sometime for 30s shutter speed & 4 stops, I got to use F22 which is not the optimal aperture for most lenses (might be all lenses).
I think 6 stops is good but dun think there is one in the market? So have to stack 2 NDs. :(

Bro, there is 6-stop / 8-stop ND in market :- Hitech Pro 100mm Stop 6 & Stop 8@ sell at TK Foto.

i also do 30s exposure, ranging from f9.0 - f13.

but when reach actual sunset timing, even if i open up to f8.0, i need longer than 30s.

my ideal exposure period is ~10s at sunset timing.. hmmm...

That's strange, that time I'm at TK, the saleman told me only 4 stops and 10 stops. :s11:
I do know there are other brand with 8 and 9 stops but those are screw-drive not square filter.

Yeah at that timing, no need to use 10 stops liao.
When the sun is about to set I'll shorten the exposure to abt 10-15s too. :)
Last time I shot at 30s, I find it too risky if the settings is wrong, it will end up under-expose.

precisely, at that lil' window period, the light change so fast that you(or rather i) really need to shorten the shutter speed, in order to control the overall exposure well.

somemore i do a lot of HDR/DRI, i cannot afford to make too many mistake and it will mean retaking a bunch of photos all over again. :s22:
