I have short list some printers Canon PIXMA MX727, Fuji Xerox M265z or cheaper no Duplex ADF M225z, but I print very little.

I have Using Samsung mono multi function printer for over 6 years, one used for 3 years printing a lot of line need to change toner no network function so buy with network function. Right now paper jam could be Solenoid issue but Samsung charge me labor S$60 exclude part if bring in to service center 3-5 working days fix but if I reject repair the evaluation fee is S$30. Unless any one here knows how to repair mono laser printer?

Inkjet color printer are cheaper than mono laser multi function but never buy color laser multi function before as too expensive.

Should I buy inkjet color multi function cheaper or mono laser multi function?

Buy refillable ink. $10 per bottle (100ml), can refill until you shiok. Quality is as good as those branded one.

Go for laser, inkjet need constant printing or else nozzles dry out and clog ink flow.

There are also "3rd party" toner cartidges for laser printers (for selected brands). I think laser printers last longer as ink nozzles of inkjets clog up easily.

Can always own a combo if you have the space for it. I have a mono laser mfc, and inkjets for photos and other color needs.

Lasers definitely better for longer shelf life + lower cost per page.

I'll say that for my 3 inkjet printers, ink clog is more or less problem of the past as long as you use genuine ink. I've not had a clog at all, oldest one is about 5-6 years old. That said, this comes at the price of ink wastage if you print infrequently as cleaning cycles are run to ensure there's no clog. So owning a inkjet is not recommended unless one is willing to pay for the convenience.

I've been avoiding ink jet printers like a plague. As you rightly pointed out, I think the ink dries up really fast, and its really annoying when you are trying to print a black and white document and the printer insists that you install a new color ink that has dried up.

I have switched to laser printer for 2 or more years now. Till now, its still working well. ;) Its a short term pain due to the cost, and long term gain due to less hassle about choked nozzle and dried ink.

Now my laser printer not much paper jam, suspecting I putting in too much paper inside the tray. As it can hold up to 250 sheets of paper in the tray, I put over 200, should put 100 plus paper since I do less printing. I trying to monitor for a few weeks to hold on to buying new first.

the ink in inkjets don't dry up, it gets consumed outside of actual printing, because the printer regularly conducts cleaning cycles on its own, and each cleaning cycle waste some ink.

the problem you all face... is because..... rarely used.... or overly used

inkjet can pretty long... provided u have $$$ to buy ink to print alot, if u don't use it of cos will dry up lah, but nowadays the printer got auto maintenance if it is left in suspend mode.

if occasionally want to print, just get laser printer, easier to maintain

for my canon inkjet printers. think a refillable cartridge would last 2 months or slightly longer before drying up. I print occasionally. 2 months are acceptable. the problem is the cartridge is always faulty ( undetectable ) after 5-8 refills. the ink cartridges are expensive. the refillable inks are so cheap from China. I bought 3 500ml bottles from Taobao, 1 for S$2, total costs including shipping are $20. SLS sells 1 bottle at $40.

I used to do that. Then switch to ink tank. Working for 3 years

Those who say ink gets clogged probably because using non-refillable printers. Specialised ones use different print head
