Should I upgrade my cpu?

Currently using i5-4460 on a H97, gtx 1080, 8gb ram for my old desktop. Wondering if my gfx card is being bottlenecked by the cpu.
When I run witcher 3, I do notice frame drops when the cpu hits max load.

The frame drops are not noticeable on my laptop which runs an i7-7700HQ with gtx 1060 6gb, although average fps is lower than the desktop.

desktop is 1x8gb or 2x4gb ram

What resolution are you running the game at ?

Based on this it does seem like a better processor might help.

can u borrow a kit of ram (ie 1 pair) to test rams in dual channel mode
i understand ram bandwidth does affect witcher 3 esp min fps, during cpu intensive parts of the game, as much or greater than cpu oc
and u mentioned frame drops during cpu max loads

kiv only, witcher 3 improved after going dual channel (in 1st link also added ram, actually)
but still, better to borrow rams to test 1st - to see if improved, then by how much on ur system

Their recommendation is that i5 is sufficient. Check out the YouTube video as linked above. Digital foundry does very detailed test to see what component affect fps. Other check any other witcher 3 benchmark video to see which component upgrade yields the highest fps gain.
