oh.. but so what? Thats his opinon btw. For me i just follow buffet's rule "Buy when fear is the greatest"

So it is not bottom yet! Simple as that! Oei Hong Leong also follow the rule of buy when fear is the greatest! He bought AIG at 1.80 and sold off at 5, now it is 1.55!

Know the rule, must also know the rule to profit from it! Simply buying and hold, might not be a wise thing at times!

TS: this bear era will last much longer than you can imagine. for me, i remain bearish till 2012 at least. from now till 2012, you will gradually see that the social mood and financial markets will get more and more and more negative.

im curious to find out how u arrive at this number: 2012

I read somewhere that 2012 is end of the world!!!

Probably, some businessman came up with this idea so that one will spend like no tomorrow! The same group of imbecile that came up with valentine day, mother day, father day, boss day, secretary day, etc!

Interesting posting there. Are you suggesting that even with govt intervention everywhere, this vicious cycle is not going to stop anytime in 2009, 2010 or even in 2011?

yup. my take is that for 2009 to 2011 (or even 2012) the main trend is still down. definitely will be some rallies here and there, accompanied by mass media and govt bodies trying to boost public optimism. but then more and more bearish news will pile up. our latest socially bearish news is the pub in thailand that went up in flames on new yr eve countdown and the casualties. you see, the overall social mood has already turned bearish. its something like - we are all back in the starting point of the 2001-2003 bear market again, just that its going to be about 3x as bad. Well what actually moves the financial markets? what actually moves the stock prices? is it a piece of announcemtn over the news? no. its actually the collective psychology (the social mood) of the stock market participants that move the prices, not the government intervention. you can try to have a bailout or two here and there, some stimulus packages, cutting interest rates, etc those can cause the social mood to change a bit to a knee jerk rally in stock prices but what happens overall after that? it doesnt stay up for long. the bigger trend is still down.

and why 2012...we have forecasts that go all the way to 2016 as the ultimate market bottom.. but we all know - the further you project, the less accurate it might get, so i stick to 2012 as a target date . so for now i am not so bold as to see 2016 as the bottom. so i look closer and pick 2012. its also linked to the mayan prophecy of doomsday being dec 21st 2012. yeah it sounds like nonsense but why not? anyway it provides a convenient date to put as a first cut date to watchout for.

check out this blog on the bearish outlook. i dont suggest u take everything at its face value but some of its comments are quite interesting. especially the inflation adjusted DJIA chart.

there are other blogs on US markets - i have included them in earlier posts.

or how about this if you really want the really big picture - it sounds too incredible to be true but then again why not? this tip of the iceberg could be what we are in for now - http://www.gold-eagle.com/editorials_99/mbutler120299a.html

Definitely nonsense! Man of science cannot believe this! Auntie can believe! Mayan fortune teller got the date all wrong! They were wiped out after the Spanish arrived to the New World! Wiped out by white man disease! They cannot predict their doomsday accurately even!

everyone is entitled to make their own prediction. but for the sake of those who are in long positions in the stock mkt, i'm hoping your prediction wont come true....LOL
