I went there yesterday for fun after not being there in a few years, and the place is growing abandoned. Some of the shops have already closed, and one of them is Make Fine.Fuwell has been reduced to half of its original size
Physical stores are now suffering greatly as a result of online purchasing, which often includes discounts and promotions.Soon there will be no more window shopping.

Dynacore still looks big leh. With self-collection online buyers going down to collect from their store.

Fuwell reduces to only 1 unit like Infinity opposite.

I think renting a store there to sell food probably generates more revenue than selling IT HW on store front now.

But yah, 今非昔比。

Someone told me some members here highly recommend a few shops which in term bring in sales for these shops in SLS. Most of the shops there have online platform too. I rather shop online and have them deliver to my door step.

Huh? Why would they close down? Even though more online purchase, the purchase is still made to their physical stores where delivery companies will then come and collect and deliver to your places.

Not to mention, every 1-2 years, new GPU and CPU/Mobos. Isn't it like a repeated purchase thing since there will always be new or repeat customers looking to upgrade.

Where am I going to find reasonably priced RTX 5090 now if this happens?

To be honest, the distributors needed the physical store fronts to sell their products back in the days. But with the rise of e-commerce platforms, that reliance on physical stores is greatly reduced. And you can already find like some distributors selling their hardware directly on some of these online platforms. Hence, the number of stores are declining. I guess the decline in people DIYing PC is also declining.

The other reason would be that these stores themselves are selling on these e-commerce platforms. And the low foot traffic in SLS is a testament that you really don't need a big store nowadays. All you need is storage space and a smaller store in case someone needs to buy something urgently on the spot.

Also, because you can get really good prices for some items in store vs online e-commerce platforms where they will actually sell the same items at a way higher price. So some PC parts are best bought physically than online. And I mean a difference of more than $100 for GPUs and CPU/Mobos.

Along with good deals from Make Fine for PC cases and RAM. This is truly unfortunate. Now PC parts might actually cost more as a result.

This is a really interesting topic actually!
I lived in Singapore for nearly 7 years in the early 2000’s as an expat and I shopped at SLS a lot in this time. Bought lots of hardware there.
This year in February, just before Chinese new year I was on a business trip to Malaysia and I took a private holiday in Singapore to revisit the places I stayed at 15+ years ago.
It was just 4 days but I managed to visit SLS too. I was also a bit shocked to see the place in the state it is now. It looks and feels like it has not seen a paint brush or a new tile since… forever.
I was a bit heartbroken actually because I have a lot of beautiful memories of Singapore and SLS was, to me as hardware enthusiast, a bit of a special place. In the old days there were hardly and online shops and you got everything you needed at SLS or SLT. I guess this does have to do with it being less frequented...

Its got an MRT right next door now, that wasn’t there when I stayed in Singapore before. I sure hope it will be renovated and not just torn down and replaced.
And I want to say that I really enjoyed my short stay, the city is in beautiful shape and so much development has happened I was stunned. Also the Marina Sands and Gardens by the Bay were new to me, just amazing.
It’s a really really great little country.

SLS turned to a sex shop place already

Only boomers are still buying from physical shops.

SG is not like the US, there's no microcenter and not many discounts, the only way to find the cheapest option is to buy and search online.

Actually I buy quite a number of things from Amazon now. CPU, RAM, SSD, motherboard (some times), keyboard, speakers and mice. Even my main monitor was purchased from Amazon. So generally the only parts that I buy locally are GPU and PSU.

Such weather condition is due to emf/ef pollution. It was intentionally caused. You can measure the amount of emf/ef with a emf meter.

Yeah you would think you could haggle to get prices lower but most of the time they won't bother. I went SLS to build my R9 5950X and RTX3090 PC during covid. A year ago 7950X3D and RTX4090 was mostly bought online (I only went there to collect because I didn't want to wait for courier).

The last time I went to pickup an order through Lazada, I can't recall if its level 5 or 6 that's become like a night club. I think that is the floor where I spotted Performance PC. Most of the shops are very small now. And ironically, when I looked at the price list, some key PC parts seem to be more expensive than what you can find online.
