Haha is that a little debate i spot down in the posts below? heh.

I get both (Carl & Number_theory) of your points that private will always be a notch below local unis; actually this is a fact, but as long as you are hardworking with a good attitude, nothing is impossible!
Anyway no matter what, the grass will always be greener on the other side. Even if a private uni grad A earns more than a localuni grad B, there will still be a local uni grad C earning much more than grad A, and there will also be a private uni grad D that earns more than grad C, so on and so forth, so actually it doesnt matter haha

whoever works hard would normally earn respect. the worst is when, whichever unis you come from, you feel sour when you see the achievements of others, and you try to bring them down instead of embracing competition.

Haha agreed! I'm one such example hahaha i can only blame myself for having interest in humanities/arts subject but not in sciences or engineering not saying that sciences/engineering are bad courses, just that they are relatively easier to enter based on this year's cut off. Haha.

SIM may not be as prestigious as SMU/NTU/NUS but I believe it's still a good Uni. People have their reasons for entering SIM. What's more important is that your pursuing your interests and not paper chasing.

Its more like a small few of them. I know a huge number of people who went to or are heading to sim. Because I come from a neighbourhood JC. So far, I can say only one of them, out of say, 50, could go to local uni but chose not to because was not offered biz. No one here is being sour bro. Some people are raising good points. This is probably the most useful SIM vs local uni thread I've ever seen in this forum. No trolls and mud slingers around. We are just debating on the good and bad of pursuing a degree in sim. That's all.

dunno about jc but its really hard for poly grads to enter local unis, let alone biz. i had quite a no. of poly friends from sim who had gpa of 3+, they were not accepted into local unis, and the way i see them, i think they are as good as some local unis peeps from jc (no offence) so quite unfair to them to be labelled as 'not so gd students'. even university of melbourne biz accepts poly grads with gpa of 3.2 but having the money to go overseas is another thing altogether. thats why i guess some sim grads can manage to do well at work, disregarding the fact that they have pte degrees. of cos not all, there are really slackers ard (prob in life too). well i guess nothing is fair in life.

at the end of the day, i think we must be happy in what we do, even if we are still running the race to reach whatever goals we have.

Yes, majority are not paid the salary of a degree graduate. It is also true but more significantly, majority of SIM grads are doing jobs which previously are done by a Poly dip holder.(non-technical dip jobs)

Im real curious how come in all your posts you are trying to bring down SIM grads albeit in a 'tactical' way?

You mean a subtle way. I don't think he is. He's just stating opinions and facts. Actually, no matter whatever anyone says here, employers and society's mindset will not change. This is just an open debate. So whatever anyone says here, SIM grads will be seen the same way still.

Kinda absolute to say that employers & society's mindset will not change haha. it could change in the future, who knows what could happen. haha. I believe one day the perception of SIM grads will change Not wholly but a gradual change, bringing down the odds of SIM being shed in a bad light. No doubt the local unis are still the better ones though. haha just standing up for myself as a possible future student of SIM hahaha its just my opinion dont take it to heart haha

Oz is a unique case, dont have to name top uni u wouldn't find UCL, bath, Warwick, UCLA, SFU, UBC, rice, UT Austin taking these ppl in and hand out 1-2yrs adv standing

Certainly no, I'm not bringing down SIM grads man, no way I would want to do that at all. Why do u think that I'm bringing them down??

In any of my post, did I look down on them? If someway or somehow I did, I apologize then. Bringing down SIM grads is certainly not what I'm trying to do.

I'm just trying to highlight the reality on how employers value SIM students. And also, insights with regards to jobs expectation.

You can't shrug off social stigma. I wish u all the best in ur studies.

Maybe a few months later come back to this thread and tell the forum ab your views with regards to studying at SIM so that future/prospective students can learn more about studying at SIM.

I know of SIM-UB psychology grads whom enter NUS or NTU Msc psychology programme upon graduation. I can't remember if it's NTU or NUS.

But please, do not think that by studying at SIM-UB will mean that you can surely enter NTU or NUS Msc programme. >.<

Last but not least, I find that aiming to enter more well-regard universities Msc courses is much more viable or feasible than securing "good" jobs upon graduation.

Obviously my definition of "good" jobs is a degree job.

Ahh of course its not a definite way to enter the Masters Programme! I'm aware that its v difficult to enter a local uni's Msc prog since im also competing with ppl from the local unis as well and that if im from SIM, it'd make things even more difficult
But at least now I know there's hope if i work hard and hopefully do well

lol dun have to apologize but i was surprised u are from SIM yourself. had assumed u are a fellow 'Uni A grad' and working for awhile already. good luck for ur studies then.

Hi! I just happened to chance across this forum and I happened to have a similar situation as you. Interested in psych but I didn't did well enough for the local unis. Has trouble deciding between UB and UOW too. So would you mind sharing which uni did u went in the end ? Would really appreciate your reply!
