The FAQ, contract and website should put big big that there’s this $5 charge for every change of device for eSim users.. AND only can change at the service centres IN PERSON lol

Firstly, almost all 5G phones sold in Asia support do support n1, n38 and n40, so it should't be an issue. There are indeed some phone do not support n40, but, SIMBA is not using n40 anyways. Currently it is only using band 1 for 5G.
https://ibb.co/Xx6NVVH
NRARFCN 422910, frequency 2114.55MHz
b40 is only used for LTE now.
Thirdly, mmwave is not used by SIMBA. It is only used by the other 3 at very limited location for testing purpose only, so no need to care about mmwave in SG.

I thought only M1 running a pure SA 5G network, the rest are on NSA/SA which means they will need to tap into 4G bands for their 5G services. The below article mentioned that 5G bands in SG are only the n1 and n78. n40 is for 4G and cannot be used for 5G, so presumably, Simba relies on n40 as NSA for 5G on top of the n1 which they are allocated.

https://en.ocworkbench.com/singapor...tel, Giga,another potential 5G band candidate.

The n40 5G band plus n257/n258 for mmwave was mentioned by Simba last time.

Discovered with network cell info app that my xiaomi phone on china rom is using band 8 for 5G(NSA). By right the specs state the phone do not support band 8 for 5G. The app found band 1 5G(SA) but should be other telco cell tower.

What the average speed for your 5G?
IMHO.
I did not really test because the connection to 5G is not consistent and the speed is not fantastic.
But when able to connect to 5G, the speed was an improvement over TPG own 4G.

Perhaps the ROM software is smart enough to detect your location and open up the relevant bands? This does make sense or else Chinese travellers might not be able to access other 5G networks when they are abroad (with a top-end Xiaomi phone), the hardware requirement is already there, so based on location, the ROM can open up other bands when overseas.

The specs state phone do not support band 8 for 5G at all regardless of global or china rom.

I think no need to expect too much from Simba 5G, cos they have been allocated with the n1 band, which is considered the slowest/lowest band among all the 5G bands. The other 3 Telco got awarded the n78 which is the mid-range band and is much better than n1. The super high speed generally comes from mmwave, but these mmwave bands are short-range and cannot go through the wall, so we are unlikely to be able to get mmwave speed at home anyway.

TPG allocation is 2.1Ghz which is mid band. From your link.
10Mhz allocation should be able to do at least 100 Mbps.

Mid Band

Mid-band 5G typically transmits around 1.7GHz to 2.5GHz, offering a solid balance between coverage and speed. The mid band is commonly used for 5G connectivity, as it is designed to cover large areas across suburbs and cities. Speeds in the mid band can range from 100 to 900 Mbps. Even at the lower end of these speeds, the mid band is often faster or just as fast as your home internet.

The bands are hardware-dependent, so it depends on what has been put into the Snapdragon 865 and their x55 modem. Can't find any info on x55 modem bands, but as long as Xiaomi bother to update or open them up at a later stage, then all of it becomes usable. There are some videos on YouTube teaching people how to see, lock and unlock the bands, as long as you open up the developer mode, should be able to see all available 5G bands accessible in your location.

So it’s still better to get a physical SIM card?
Yes, eSim is overhyped for locals. With Telcos like Simba wanting to recover some bucks out of it whenever you want to change phone and needing to go down to a store, it becomes more of a hassel. You are better off with eSim for overseas simcard as it allows quick and easy access to overseas networks without the need to swap in/swap out sim cards. iPhone users don't have a choice when they want to have two lines as the phone only comes with one sim slot.
