SIMBA is eating M1??!
So Starhub eating M1 was fake news all the while!

It is very hard for the Big 3 in Singapore to eat one another. Their market share after the merger will raise competition concerns, and there is the Competition Act regulating M&A.

M1 is also a large fibre Internet service provider with a large IPv4 allocation, among other assets. Assuming this merger goes through, this'll also effectively reduce the number of fibre ISPs by one.

SuperInternet left that market (for home subscribers anyway), and MyRepublic is now effectively a StarHub subbrand for fibre Internet service. WhizComms is independent but wholesales from Singtel. In short, there would be less competition in fibre Internet service too.

If later SIMBA and M1 fully merge network, then there will only be 2 5G networks in SG: ST vs SH+SIMBA.
If in that way, see if SH will force original SIMBA users to use lower-frequency 5G n1 only? Because they don't pay enough
Or limit lower paying customers to ~100Mbps speed, like how they do it in Malaysia. Only fully paying SH and original M1 users can be uncapped

Telco competition is covered by Sections 62 and 63 of the IMDA Act 2016, not the Competition Act.

Congrats to simba users. Hopefully simba will not forget us old timers.

Keppel to sell M1’s telco business to Simba for $1.43 billion
https://www.straitstimes.com/busine...nits-telco-business-to-simba-for-1-43-billion
SIMBA-M1 will become the second largest telco, just a few hundred thousands subscribers away from being largest telco. Amazing feat from a tiny Lion cub to future king Simba.

After merger, Simba-M1 will have 38.3% market share of post-paid lines. Singtel will have 38.9%, while Starhub will have only 22.8%.

The difference between 38.3% and 38.9% is not alot. Simba already increased their market share from 12% to 14.4% since the start of the year. In no time, it will surpass Singtel
