I really suspect is VOLTE setting...

What 4G band is TPG using?
I have an old 4G phone thinking of getting TPG Sim 100GB
I think even 3G phones work, just that you don't have VOLTE function. But there is workaround for phones with no VOLTE function, which is to download the TPG voice app. If your phone supports VOLTE, then its smooth no problem.

I realise VOLTE is the biggest problem for TPG users. Something can live without, but definitely good to have function. But same logic I always say, cannot complain for this pricetag already... TPG is for user who wants a really affordable price, doesn't mind network coverage not as wide as Singtel/M1/Starhub, data speed slower. Else all is good enough for $10.

As far as 3G is concerned I think can test it out by forcing 3G only in Network setting then see can be used or not.

I'm confused...

TPG website mentioned that we only need the voice app if we do not have a compatible handset but on the roaming FAQ page, they mentioned "To remain contactable overseas, download TPG 4G Voice App. Currently, TPG 4G Voice App can only be used in these destinations: Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, India, Japan, Taiwan."

Does it mean if we would like to enjoy the free mins overseas we will need to dial using their voice app even though I have a compatible handset?

For most roaming networks, yes.

Simple reason: no VoLTE roaming.
Longer reason: Voice roaming is expensive, and some of the TPG Super Roam networks is through Orange France as middleman. Those are either reception only (incoming SMS only) or with data service, no talktime.

Example: Roaming in Malaysia
(Info correct as of Dec 2021, it might have changed since then.)

Inside TPG Super Roam list, you're allowed to connect to MY CELCOM, DiGi and MY MAXIS. However, you can only use data roaming (at LTE speeds) on MY CELCOM. Incoming SMS is supported too.
If you're connected to DiGi or MY MAXIS, you'll be on their GSM network only, and you're only able to receive incoming SMS. No data, no outgoing services and incoming calls. Those two are covered in Orange France agreement.
For all voice services, it has to be done through TPG 4G Voice app. If you're not on a wifi hotspot, you have to be connected to MY CELCOM with data roaming enabled to make calls. (Since Malaysia only have LTE and GSM, if you're on Celcom GSM/EDGE/GPRS instead of Celcom LTE, you're probably unable to call due to the high latency too.)

This is why most operators only provide data roaming bundle, and roaming voice is pay per use (or separate bundle) at high rates.
Data can be of lower priority as there's no mandatory Quality of Service, but voice calls has to be transmitted within a short time to not sound like trash or cause call drops.

Do you know where to get the list of LTE supported roaming partners? Not a big issue now but when travelling starts again, was looking forward to using TPG for data roaming & rather not trial & error :ROFLMAO:

Roaming at least India does not need the App, Calls works on VoLTE and VoWifi. Tested and confirmed.
Tested and confirmed when?

Without using the App, incoming and outgoing calls is it still fall under your plan entitlement?

Is that, without using App while roaming, you still can enjoy free 300mins to Singapore landline, free incoming call and unlimited call to Singapore mobile number?

Or you need to topup your wallet?
