Can US Colt IAR6940 do like wise?

The ultimax accuracy is terrible compare to m16, only good thing is very light. Colt definitely will have devastating effect to a section firepower. I would say a good choice.

U b surprised SAW can b very accurate too if u fire it 1 round at a time. Is how u ctrl the trigger

Go range is using real bullets. Clean yr rifle properly, n oil the chamber. Not bone dry. Gt my marksman when I control it like Semi.

Colt is a very troubled company.

Because of reliabilty issues, it lost a major contract for US Army M4s in 2013.
It filed for bankcruptcy in 2015.
In 2021 Colt was bought over by the well known Czech firearms company CZ.
The company is now known as Colt CZ.

Does SAF want to equip our army with an IAR from such a company ?

Buying a weapon not in use with any major army from a company with poor track record is a huge risk !

I wonder if SAF has done extensive testing on the Colt IAR eg torture testing, test to failure, long term user & enviromental trials etc
Also, I think this is a non production/ non mass produced weapon being tested.
Transitioning to a production model incurs high costs and may lead to a weapon not as good or reliable as the weapons during testing.

If really adopted SAF will be the first major user of Colt's IAR.

Correcting misconceptions on a few posts here:
1) IAR6940 cannot provide sustained firepower
2) IAR 6940 is not a SAW

In fact, a drum magazine can be used on the IAR6940 if needed.
The US Marine used it to replace their M249 which in itself is a very competent weapon

The only thing I found strange is that SAF is reverting to the AR15 based set up when the standard rifle is bullpup.

The Colt IAR6940 was a squad automatic weapon designed by Phil Hinckley and manufactured by Colt's Manufacturing LLC in prototype form only. It was based on the design of the M16A4 series of rifles.

The Colt IAR was made to compete with FN HAMR and M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle for the IAR program. Three prototypes were made. Interestingly, it was better than its rivals with better cooling, ergonomic and less recoil, but it was more expensive than the M27.

The Colt IAR is chambered for the 5.56x45mm and is designed to "satisfy the role currently played by the FN M249 SAW in a lighter, more man-portable mode" at significant cost savings he SAW. It's direct gas impingement, not gas piston/op-rod. Colt went with the direct gas impingement system, has a patented Monolithic Upper Receiver with MIL-STD-1913 rails at the 12, 3, and 9 o’clock positions.

The SAF should buy the IMI Galil automatic rifles from Israel that use the 5.56 x 45 mm NATO and 7.62 x 51 mm NATO rounds. The CornerShot is another accessory that protects our soldiers in combat that is invented by Israel.

When Ultimax 100 aka SAW was launch by ST Engineering

Is a proud moment for SAF as well as it's soldiers

Imagine firing a light machine gun design and invented by Singapore Engineering team

Though is short lived

30 years is considered short lived ??

From my POV, as long as is a SAW weapon (ie LMG), y not get back the new variants of Ulitmax 100? Do a few design change to the short-comings of tat rifle ie the loosed 2-hole clips at the mag catch, IAs at blanks, range of the rifle etc. Don tell me so many years since we adopted the orig vers SAW, STK still cannot improved n modified for better versions?

Comeon man. We r talking abt normal rifles, not highly sophisticated LAW, missle launcher etc. Now is 21st century. Y let other countries earn our $ rather than giv it to our own local company? Is it due to political reasons? Some countries still using the old M16s lei. Call a rifle a rifle la. Be it normal type or SAW type. Mostly still depends on the user. Bobo is still bobo. Went for the reservist last range using SAR21. Out of a whole battalion, i think only 10% scored 90% shots on targets. Only 1 or 2 get perfect score. So wat if the rifle is equipped w scope?

M27 isn't even American made, it is from superior German engineering H&K.

Even our mata MP5 is from H&K.
Our tank also German made and upgraded.
