Haha, to think the main reason I bought and hold is because I like the round figures for dividends, every 2 lot is $25, $50 dividends... that's why I didn't sell at any high, not even now...

Haha lucky you man. I too greedy already couldn't resist the capital gain. Thought can buy back when hit a dollar. Now $2 no chance lo. :(

Lol I bought at 90 cents leh. But sold off at 1.24. That time Singpost trading between range of 1 and 1.25 thought sell at a high already. Who can predict will shoot up above 2 dollars..

$0.90 is cheap sia. You dint hold?

Plus last time Singpost trading at a range of 1 to 1.20+, never go above 1.30 before.

Ya, I noticed that trend, wanted to do trend trading that time, but distracted by work. Turns out, not doing anything is often times better than constantly observing. Holds true for so many of my stocks sia... the more I tinker, the less I earn. The less I touch, the more it returns. :s22:

No, capital gain making a hell lot so decided to sell. If still holding now more than double already. Wasted man.

Nothing's a waste if it's solid realized profit. If we look back in retrospect, any stock that went further up would have been wasted.

My son's 4 lot bought in 2009 @ 0.875. Been collecting dividends for him since, and now... :s12: :s12: :s12:

6 years ago, on 5 May 2009, I looked at my son's bank account (who, by the way, was still in P4) and said he don't need to use this money in the next 5 years. Why not use it to buy some stable high-yield stock and get better return than putting it in the bank? And so we took out $3500 to buy 4 lots of Singpost at $0.875.

Never can I imagine the return on this amount of money.

Singpost trades now at around $2.15. So the capital gain is around (2.15-0.875)x4000 = $5100. The total dividends received over the 6 years from 2009 to now (2015) is about $1375, because we didn't bought all 4 lots in one go. So the total gain is $6475. This comes up to about 30% gain every year since 2009.

Yes, I know I bought at low. 2009 was just after the GFC recovery. And I could never foresee Alibaba to invest in Singpost. But the dividends received over the years - $1375, on the initial investment of $3500 is already quite good. Even without Alibaba, I am sure Singpost will still be a profitable company with good outlook. When I did the sum, I was just shocked that this investment beats all the portfolios of the people that I know personally, including myself.

Good experience. The best is to buy low and forget all about it..

It's easy to say how Singpost is the best now, but what happened to those people that I remember saying 1.2x was overpriced, price max out liao, post biz dying, Singpost logistics cui etc...

Without Alibaba, this stock might not go that far in the numbers actually.

But it will still be a stable stock nevertheless.

And I thought people would keep this stock for dividends only?

Actually valuation change over time. I totally agree with your views. When Alibaba didn't buy into Singpost, Singpost have to rely on their efforts to grow new business.

With Alibaba onboard, things change. If Singpost do well in terms of delivery and logistics, I think the growth is massive! The online business is growing yearly. Ppl start to order more online, buy more online and less at retail. Over the years, we can only see retail purchase shrinking.

My friends in China is ordering many things including snacks online so in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, quite a lot of room to grow.

The only worry is whether Singpost can successfully integrate and transform from traditional mail business to other business

Very wise parent, put those angbao money to good use and every quarter can give extra pocket money for your son to spend or save to buy more stocks.

I am sure I will do that for my kid(s). :o

SingPost's currently trading at 32x PER, a very high PE even for a growth company. If it's earnings disappoint, watch out.

I think if the revenue for 9 months still continue to grow at 15%, I think should surge more.

Alibaba Group, China’s largest e-commerce business, said today that it continued in the last three months of 2014 to ride a huge wave of growth in e-commerce in the nation with the world’s largest number of Internet and mobile phone users. Net profit fell from a year earlier during the period, however, and revenue growth was less than expected.

Net profit dropped by 28% to 5.98 billion yuan, or about $965 million, compared with a 40% increase in revenue to 26.1 billion yuan, according to the company’s quarter profit report. Profit declined on a tax change, one-off expenses and share-based compensation, the company said. Operating profit increased by 6% to 9.3 billion yuan.

Alibaba’s New York-listed shares dropped by 3% in pre-market trading, less than an initially larger fall after earnings were posted.

Today’s loss add to a 4.4% decline yesterday after the State Administration for Industry and Commerce accused the company of not doing enough to prevent the sale of fakes on its e-commerce platforms.

In a response, Taobao, the company’s largest shopping website said SAIC director Liu Hongliang “followed improper procedures and his legal assessment was emotional,” according to a report by state-run Xinhua News Agency.

At yesterday’s close, Alibaba’s shares had lost about a sixth of their value from a closing high of $117.27 on Nov. 10.

Though the king of the hill in e-commerce, the company is facing tough competition from JD.com and even Wal-Mart.
