FYI, u no need Singtel broadband to be able to use Singtel TV. I changed from ST to SH Broadband but retained my Singtel TV.
These are my connections.
FTP 1 ST ONT to ST issued router to ST Tv box. If you are using ONR, it can go straight to ST Tv box.
FTP 2 SH ONT to Asus Router for internet
Thanks for the info. So still have to use ST issued router or ONR to connect to ST TV Box?

Depend on what you have.
ont need to go to thru router then to singtel tv box.
onr can connect directly to tv box.
but if u on singtel ont previously and switched to other ISP now, u can request to swap ont to onr to save on electricity on the router device :) probably can save $60 ish per year…

Thank you bro for your suggestion!

Curious about ONR...what are some disadvantages of using it? Also, can I configure an AP (connected to it) to increase wireless accessibility?

1) ONT vs ONR
Post in thread 'Understanding the ABCs of home networking' https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...bcs-of-home-networking.6653421/post-138363236

ONR will be the main router of your home network. Power users want to use their own router as the main router and they do not want to use ONR in general. Or they will try to bridge the ONR.

Average users will most likely be okay with ONR.

2) No issues with adding AP behind ONR. That is the recommended setup by SingTel.

A Singtel door-to-door salesman came over to try to sell me some recontract plans. He confirmed that the 500Mbps/1Gbps are obsolete, as are ONT/Bridge-mode configurations. All new plans are ONR.

Interestingly, the prices he offered are nowhere as cheap as those mentioned here. He offered me the 5Gbps gamer pro bundle for $58.90, as well as the 10Gbps plans for $70-80. His 3Gbps plan is only a few dollars less than the 5Gbps. He did not mention the $29.90/$39.90 option for the 3-5Gbps plans.

He claimed that his offers are not available "in store", but when I checked Singtel's website, the deals seem to be similarly priced. Not very attractive, so I didn't sign up.

Interestingly, he also noted that Singapore will phase out all of the 1Gbps/500Mbps plans and everyone will be forced to the higher-speed plans (not sure if it's true), and if I waited till then, the plans will be even more expensive (I think highly unlikely.)

In general, Singtel door-to-door salesperson can be ignored as they will not be able to give better offers than the reported offers here.

But indeed as per the reports from existing Singtel users, all new plans will be ONR and no more recontract of legacy 500Mbps/1Gbps plans from Singtel. As a result, Singtel ONT users who want to recontract will have to go with 2Gbps/3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps pans which all use ONR. Singtel ONT users have to move out of Singtel if you do not want to go with ONR.

All ISPs have phased out 500Mbps plan for new users. All ISPs except M1 have phased out 1Gbps plan.

As for legacy 500Mbps/1Gbps plan users from any ISP, indeed eventually you will be forced to upgrade in the future, usually free upgrade (the price can be even cheaper) if that happens. So what the saleperson says about price increase is not correct in that regard.

Starhub seems to be actively moving users out of legacy 500Mbps/1Gbps plans now. For example, Starhub 5Gbps recontract offer is now at S$30.37 per month. So it makes sense for 500Mbps/1Gbps/2Gbps plan users to upgrade.

M1 is offering superb 6Gbps recontract offer for existing 500Mbps/1Gbps users if 6Gbps is available in the users' area.

VQ offers existing 1Gbps/2Gbps users the option to upgrade to 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps even within contract (may need to pay a bit of money).

WC legacy 300Mbps/1Gbps users have already been upgraded to 2.5Gbps.

SIMBA legacy 2.5Gbps users will have to upgrade to 10Gbps plan, or leave SIMBA as per the terms and conditions.

But if M1 6Gbps plan is available in your area, then no issues to enjoy the upgrade to the 6Gbps plan recontract offer as it offers superb value.

M1 6Gbps plan at S$32.90 per month with free TP-Link Archer BE805
M1 6Gbps plan at S$44.90 per month with two units of ZenWiFi BT10.

Selling the Archer BE805 at S$300 --> effective price for 6Gbps no-frills plan at S$20.4 per month. I am buying one Archer BE805 at S$300 from an M1 user. I understand the price may go down further.

Selling the Archer BE805 at S$240 (worse case) --> effective price for 6Gbps no-frills plan at S$22.9 per month.

Selling the two units of ZenWiFi BT10 at S$720 to --> effective price for 6Gbps no-frills plan at S$14.90 per month.

Selling the two units of ZenWiFi BT10 at S$600 (woese case) --> effective price for 6Gbps no-frills plan at S$19.90 per month.

Sadly, there aren't many other ISPs still offering ONT according to your ISP megathread, especially for the higher speed ones. So eventually everyone will have to contend with ONR.

Yeah, I find that it's unbelievable too. Usually these things come down in price.

With regards to the M1 plans, not sure what will happen when the Starhub acquisition goes through. That'll be one less ISP, one less competition. 🤣

That is certainly not true in Singapore.

For XGS-PON based plans (3Gbps/5Gbps/6Gbps/10Gbps plans).

Singtel -->all ONR
Starhub --> either ONT or ONR
M1 --> only ONT
MR --> only ONT
VQ --> bridged ONR (similar to ONT) or ONT by default, ONR by request
SIMBA --> only ONT
WC --> only ONR

Actually, if I'm due for recontract and a new recontract offer is available till end Feb, I should only wait till mid-end Feb, then take up the new recontract offer right? Then for the next round after 24 months, I don't need to headache about recontract so early hahaha

Your strategy might be a good one last time. But not now. The Fibre Internet price drops significantly in 2024 and the price will further drop in 2025/2026, especially for the higher priced plans (above S$40).

Even the lower priced plans (S$30 to S$40), you may well get better router bundle in 2025/2026.

Singtel is usually not so competitive in terms of pricing so the price drop or better router bundle is guaranteed after two years.

So if you like the offer, IMHO it is better that you just take it.

Yup, I'm definitely taking it up haha. What I mean is I drag on my current plan a little first...until near the offer deadline, then I confirm recontract for this offer, so that 2 years later when I recontract again, I don't have to start searching so early (maximise the 24 months contract)

Probably too early and your order will get rejected. But no harm trying. Let's see if they accept or not.

Make sure that they do not charge you early termination fee and then accept your order. I believe that will not happen, but you just need to be cautious.

The terms and conditions of the offer:

Because I have received a letter from singtel for "3Gbps enhanced plan at 39.90/mth", if i am not eligible for recontract, why singtel send the letter to me?

I am not interested in "3Gbps enhanced plan at 39.90/mth", i am interested in "5Gbps plan at 29.90/mth", hahaha

Probably too early and your order will get rejected. But no harm trying. Let's see if they accept or not.
