SingTel chief calls for right to charge OTT challengers Skype and WhatsApp

Its nothing concrete yet. But nevertheless, if they keep trying they may eventually succeed

Isn't in Australia but is already implemented here, that's what TS is warning about Singtel's 'Whatsapp Pass' subscription of $6.42. Who's going to pay for Whatsapp data usage when we already got data plan, unless its a prelude to Singtel blocking Whatsapp traffic to force us to signup.

Anyhow, lots of other choices. One new rising star is Telegram -- http://telegram.org/dl

And we can access all our Telegram chats from PC, Mac, Tabs. Multiplatform and high privacy protection. Time to switch!

eh i thought 1gb data plan is just $5 extra? might as well get that if you dont want use data right. then can use both whatsapp and internet liao

and anyway if they block whatsapp traffic there's a ton of other msg apps to turn to.

How much traffic does your monthly whatsapp usage consume anyway? The add-on will only make sense if the cost of your usage beyond your data bundle is more than the cost of the add-on right?

They just clarified. If i'm not wrong, nothing will change, you pay for your data plan as usual, nothing extra will be charge to you. There is a Whatsapp pass for 6+ which is for people with no data plans but wish to use whatsapp as a substitute for SMS. Think Singtel won't charge you anything, if there's any charging it goes to Whatsapp and Skype, later on if they wanna charge you anything on their end is another story lol but doubt they will since it will instantly drive people away, which also means, be it Singtel Starhub or M1, there's no running away :s8:

Nobody will pay... Not Whatsapp and not us users... They should just focus on how to create more value so that we spend more or find other ways to generate revenue... They have easy money for so long already... Is time to work for it.
This shows what kind of CEO Singtel has to make such a statement... Just becos they were sold for USD16billion, they feel that they want a piece of it..
Facebook is going voice with whatsapp... And that is going to impact Telcos further.. They better be more creative than just charge for everything they can think of.

most people mis read this message, it is add-on only

Add-ons | SingTel

Do you still wanna sign up or recontract with singtel?

I think some people got wrong understanding on this.
this add-on is for those people who use whatsapp too often, maybe exceed 4GB(don't know who can use so much on whatsapps), then they can add on this additional package, then no need to worry about use up these data volumes.
