I see. So you only have single Singtel Mesh Router. Your wireless coverage may not be good enough. So you have to upgrade to a better one or go with mesh solution.

Probably you want to post your floor plan with details of the locations of the Singtel ONR, the LAN ports in the rooms and the current location of the Singtel Mesh Router. Do you have Singtel TV box?
I am using existing home ethernet network. Wireless is just for my mobile phone or tablet. Not using singtel tv.

I see. How many wired devices and wireless devices?

If it is due to the wireless, you can get another Singtel Mesh Router as AP (you may need to use Ethernet cable to connect to the ONR), or you can upgrade to a better one like the cheap TP-Link Archer AX72 (BNIB unit from Carousell at around S$80). But if it is due to the Singtel ONR, then that will not help.

Since you suspect the old ONR may be the problem, I will suggest you go and replace the Singtel ONR first to see if that helps. It is very easy to change. Just bring the following to one of the Self Replacement Centres. Recently I changed my faulty Singtel TV box in Singtel Jurong Point Shop and it was pretty hassle free.

  • ONR and its power adapter
  • Fibre patch cord
  • your NRIC/identification card1

Wow, you certainly have good routers.

For 1Gbps plan and unbridged ONR, none of the ports will be bridged. So I believe you are having Double NAT situation. So you may want to set the AX6000 in AP mode to see if that helps.

Still Double NAT should not cause so much problems. Just wondering if you have many devices or not? If yes, I think the Singtel ONR may not be able to handle.

I will suggest you move out of Singtel after contract expiration. Or if you really like Singtel -- upgrade to Singtel 1+1 Gamber Bundle plan and then use the AX6000 in Dual WAN Load Balancing mode. You can sell the RT-AX86U to offset some of the price increase.
Thanks for your reply.

I don't have many devices. Yesterday I tried to reset my AX6000 reuter. after several resets, my AX6000 could not connect to WAN. I used one of my XT8s as the main router, and other routers connect to this main router. Now it seems good. So maybe my problem is my AX6000 (bought 6 months ago). I will test for more days to confirm it.

I have to stay with Singtel because I have 18 months to go with my Singtel broadband.

I saw the game pro 1+1 plan is still with ONR. Can briding mode be enabled under the plan?

For Singtel 1+1 Gamer Bundle Plan, Port 4 of the Singtel ONR is bridged by Singtel. It is the only Singtel plan you get an officially-bridged ONR.

Example configuration for Singtel 1+1 Gamer Bundle plan. You may need to check if your network configuration is in line with this.
1) First network with its own public IPv4 address, 1Gbps bandwidth
Port 4 (bridged) -- Asus RT-AX86U (free router) or GT-AX6000 or any 3rd party router, in router mode (no VLAN configuration required)

2) Second network with its own public IPv4 address, another 1Gbps bandwidth
Port 1 (unbridged) -- Singtel TV Box
Port 2 (unbridged) -- Asus Zenwifi XT8 (in AP mode), AImesh main node
Port 3 (unbridged) -- Asus Zenwifi XT8, AImesh mesh node

I may try this plan if my problem persists. Seems better now after I use a xt8 as my main router.

For the game 1+1 plan, if singtel network has problem, I guess both network will be down? I was thinking of subscibe anothe broadband plan from m1 or starhub to use with my currwnt singtel plan together using router's aggregation function. In case one sp is down, another could still work.

Yes, to get another ISP like M1 or Starhub is a good option if you need ISP redundancy.

SingTel 1+1 does not provide ISP redundancy.

Yes I use Singtel ONR.

I moved half a year ago. Before I moved, I used an ONT. I had one ASUS XT8 router connected to the ONT and another XT8 connected to the first XT8 wirelessly. It worked properly.

After I moved, I got an ONR. I have an ASUS AX6000 and four XT8 routers. I don't want to use Access Point (AP) mode. Singtel said they could not enable bridging mode for me. Luckily, I found that if I use the fourth port of the ONR, I can use router mode for my AX6000.

My connections:

ONR -> AX6000 -> 2G switch -> 3 cables, each connected to an XT8 router. [The reason I have the switch is that I tried to build a 2G wireless intranet at home.]

It worked for several months. About three months ago, I started to experience disconnection problems. Sometimes it disconnects every minute. I called Singtel, but they said they could not help because I use a third-party router.

I have tried two changes:
  1. I used one cable to connect to a port of the ONR, and set an old router to AP mode.
  2. I removed the 2G switch. The other two cables connect to the AX6000 directly.
I have the two Wi-Fi networks running at the same time. Solution 1 is better. The disconnection problem happens much less frequently. Solution 2 has fewer disconnection problems compared to the original connection plan, but still happens frequently.
ONR -> AX6000 -> 2G switch -> 3 cables, each connected to an XT8 router.
The three cables connect to WAN or LAN port of your XT8?
If is LAN, have you turned off the DCHP function on your XT8? Otherwise can be DHCP conflict

if upgrade from 1Gbps to 3Gpbs or even 10Gbps need to change ONT?

Yes. No more ONT based plans from Singtel for new sign-up or recontract.

3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps --> XGS-PON ONR. Singtel now offers S$10 per month VAS for official bridging. Some users (including me) took the risks and bridge the ONR manually.

Bridging method --> standard disclaimer: proceed with your own risk, YMMV.
