AFAIK, Commando when they get their airborne badge or freefall badge, its different from normal ones in that its silver on red backing. Normal one is silver with no backing.

This guy one is red backing one is yellow. Yellow is what? Guards?

he is a Commando. that's Sgt Major of the Army CWO Tang Peck Oon.

I know but not all CDO have yellow backing. Usually is red. Former Army Sgt Major Gunga had yellow backing on his wings.

Meaning if the guy just jump once, he gets to wear the badge forever but got no backing. If every year jump means will have red backing?

If you are an instructor I would think you will need to do a full equipment jump yearly. I mean if you are expected to teach, then you need to be keep yourself up to date. Would think yellow backing probably one notch above red.

Question: Is the yellow backing a lifetime kind of thing? Like can wear for life once you reached Instructor level, even if you are not a current instructor?

I had seen a few senior Commandos serving outside their formation, but still wearing yellow backing. Take SMA for example, considering his role does he have the time to be teaching trainees how to jump

That time never see him wear the badge.

Maybe I call him up when free & check with him =P
