HQ Guards is under 7 SIB? not the other way round?

7 SIB is a brigade leh. Since when does a brigade come under a battalion?

On a separate note, has anyone seen the logo for 21 Div? Looks damn nice but I only have a super low res one from my recruit handbook dating back to 1996.

[Edit] Sh*t I can't find my handbook! Anyway it looks like a shield with a perpendicular line & the top half is red, bottom half is black. In the middle is no 21 in gold colour and also have 2 crossed sabres also gold colour.

HQ Guards is not a battalion, but CGO is bigger than Bde Cmdr right? so shouldn't anyone falling under the guards formation, instead of 7 SIB, use the backing?

this is correct.

HQ Guards is already at formation level, the head is of course CGO. It is also combined with 21DIV, much like Inf/9DIV. As such CGO also leads 21DIV, hence CGO is a BG estab. Chief Armor is also BG estab, because he leads 25DIV.

7SIB along with 2 other NS brigades form the bulk of 21DIV. Along with other divisional assets.

1 and 3 GDS are under 7SIB, the 3rd battalion under 7SIB is presently 685GDS iinw, an NS battalion.

I have seen it quite often, anyway the beret backing is for anyone in the guards formation, even the MT line people has it.

double check with you...

i got posted from arty to hq guards... so this means i need to buy the beret backing and guards formation badge?

anyone knows which emarts, apart from those guards camp emarts (bedok, dippie barracks, etc), got sell the guards beret backing and formation badge?

zzz... my place not near any of those lifestyle emarts.

yes you need to, the guards formation badge should be easy to get, the beret backing will be a little harder, doubt khatib sells, dieppe does not have an emart, but the HQ guards office should have some spares

Going back to HQ Guards for reservice isit? Cos my frens non-guard ord reservice going back there. They reservicing soon too. Think lack of manpower at HQ Guards recently.

I was from 1st Guards/7SIB/21div from a long time ago. The guards beret badge-backing are for members of 7 SIB only. We remove the backing from the khaki berets when transferred out of 7 SIB to another brigade (the old 14th and others) during our reservist.

During fulltime NS, our CO, RSM and CSMs were all commandos, and they do wear the 7 SIB backing with their red berets. In addition, our CO had unique West-German army airborne wings and crest. They have so many badges that they can choose to show most, local only or none at all (except for name and rank).

are the other brigades a guards infantry brigade?

since CGO/Div Cmdr is a COL/BG estab, he does not require a backing because his beret crest has been "upgraded". then what about the formation/div SM?

otherwise, I think wait for j_t_fusion to see if he requires the beret backing or not during reservist

yeah, if you are not serving within the formation you have to remove the backing.

e.g appointments at other Divisions or trainers at BMTC, OCS, SCS, ITI etc.

if you rmb last year's NDP Parade SM, his khaki beret has no backing because his appointment at SCS is outside the formation

aha, during your time, probably Guards have not been reorganised as a formation yet.

Since when does a division fall under a formation? Division is higher what. Just look at the ranks of the chiefs.

Chief Commando Officer, Chief Arty Officer, Chief Signals Officer, Chief Engineer Officer, etc etc are all COL. Division commanders start off as COL but end up as BG.

The only formation chiefs that get BG are concurrent appointment holders i.e. Chief Infantry Officer who is also 9 Div commander, Chief Guards Officer who is also 21 Div commander and Chief Armour Officer who is also 25 Div commander.

No formation chief which is not concurrently a Div commander is a BG. If that doesn't indicate that division level is higher than formation level, I don't know what does.

just trying to explain the rationale behind all 21div personnel having the guards beret backing even though they are not khaki berets.
