It is. A level students are only allowed to apply for some of the courses. Most of the courses are not open to A level students. On top of that, some of the courses that are open to them require additional requirements that most of them cant fulfil. Like digipen requires a portfolio that most A level students won't have.

Can foresee an influx of A level holders applying for the new full time courses, especially Accountancy.

Sad for Diploma holders. Want to secure a uni spot also so hard.

That's true. Accountancy for SIT and unisim will definitely see an influx of A level holders. But that also means that accountancy itself will be easier to get into for both A-level and dip holders since now the competition is not concentrated at the big 3 but more spread out.

Yes. Probably we will the the A levels/Diploma COP for Accountancy at the other 3 unis dropping in the near future. But still, uni spots are more or less skewed towards A level holders.

My opinion is that those who wish to go Uni, the best is start early, do well for O levels and get into a JC, and do well for A levels.

Anyway I think degrees will lose their values more in the future as well.

How will a maths help in ntu computer science?

bcos the maths in engineering school is way beyong grasp for ppl without engineering maths background

even those with maths background also struggle to cope with those shiat they teach u in uni

2.98 is goner....my own kin had 3.5 gpa plus few letter of recommendation from NTU and POLY lecturer PLUS certain 2 gold awards from POLY then got in.

My kin applied thrice and got in the third time.

Truth is, with his 3.5GPA in engineering. he struggled like HELL for 2nd year(first year in uni)chua tio 2 letters and with the 3rd, they will expel him if his GPA falls below 2.1 Iirc but I cud be wrong with the exact figures.

so it is also good that u din get in and waste time.

Don't be mistaken that the word additional in A math means something that is beyond the usual scope of mathematics. On the contrary, I feel that A math is basic math. E math is pretty much useless IMO. If you look at ntu comp sci curriculum. You will have to take 2 math modules, Discrete Math and Engineering Math in year 1 itself. Discrete math already contains functions, vectors, complex numbers. While engineering math has derivatives, integrals and applications on top of many other things. So yeah, having an add math background is quite necessary, or else you may suffer quite abit in ntu.

I have pure maths back ground. A in O's and B in poly. I nearly chua sai in Uni. cos discrete maths is ALevel maths. I actually soughted help from my frds who took Alevel to "save me"

SUTD and SIT, my kin was accepted by both, and I told him to reject. that's very personal reason why I ask him to reject and take NTU instead.
even when we discuss about NTU rejecting him, he shud still take the pauper route of going overseas for his degree

SUTD and SIT, regard highly on a person personal achievement outside academic. plus, look at the course they are offering, if u r going for traditional engineering, these 2 university courses doesn't suit the needs. It is a great course to go for, so long you are not going for traditional core engineering path

cos they offer Bsc not Beng. for ppl who plan to migrate in the future, BSc proved to be harder

I am able to shed clearer light.

I was relatively strong in A math foundation during the time I undertook the degree. Strong as in, all the maths formula is in my head and I never need to refer to formula sheet at all even at O-level and Poly.

Then and again, in university, students are expected to already master the maths at eloquent level and perform advance solutions without assistance.

Unless one is "gifted" in maths, there is no way to be foundationally strong (learning it within 3 months) in laplace and its transformation without remembering the formula at the flick of ur fingers. Note the exam time is not adequate. u need the strong foundation of laplace to do exams for Digital signal process, real time advance control (or known as P.I.D) as well as ur fourier series.

there is a reason why GPA less than 3.5 is not accepted in local uni. it is not becos of bias. it is really that tough
