I will be very scared to receive a PM after his demise...

Want to PM after his demise, had better give me the Toto Group 1 numbers for next draw to encourage my attendance. :(

when my grandpa passed away, i sent him off on the behalf of my dad since he was the eldest child
After 9 years, i did the same thing when my grandma passed away
And after 20 years, my dad's turn to be sent off by me

Don't know what's the point
Just some thoughts

P/S, dad was an illegal immigrant and he couldn't travel back to see his mama & papa in JB for the last time

So you felt something that why those feelings prompted you starting this thread.

The answer to that is, have some children. Don't be selfish to think your wife will send you off. After you are gone, who's going to take care of her? Who's going to send her off?

Just have some children. It's just that simple. New generation thinks too much and too woke about what enjoying life without kids. All are rubbish. Your grandpa had children. Your dad had children. You should have children. It's just how nature works.

many years back, in my ex ex coy, I ever brought up this topic.
I asked my colleague, who is married with no kid, I asked you go first or your wife?
He told me better wife go first, cos he cannot bear to see her suffer alone in this world.

As in? why hold the funeral/wake when nt there living?

idk myself. At the wake, everyone comes say goodbye, we r in SG, its that big nia, travel 1 to 2 hr shld be able to reach/visit. Relatives never visit during CNY/other holidays even normal days. Wake then come say bye, to me no pt. Luxury send off package also no pt, lagi worse imho, stay in hdb flat (lao pok one) then funeral svcs need "luxury" package. So long when living, cared for them, when gone, i wont feel that sad.

When my turn, gt to rely on niece/nephew, direct to cremate, no need that elaborate. Scatter ashes, whichever is convenient/easiest, land i guess, although i think sea might be best Or got drone scattering svcs.

Sending off the deceased, including any rituals conducted, is mainly to comfort and set the heart at ease for the living - e.g. "at least I have done these. Hopefully s/he would benefit and one-road-good-walk". There might be differences in views from individuals having different religions and belief systems, but the main gist is there.

But I think rituals and last rites aside, more important is how the living treated the deceased when s/he was still alive, and if the dying moments were spent in peace (as compared to relatives quarreling and wailing beside). Imho, if one wishes, good deeds could be done in the name of the deceased or whenever good deeds were performed, one wishes that the deceased could rejoice in the good deeds performed, wherever s/he might be now. That is, focus on actual beneficial deeds instead of ritualised ones.
