A nice article talking about focal lengths. NeonX can take a look.

Primes are great if you are already used to an "advanced camera", and you have the time and comfort to prepare for your shots.
If you are new, then primes can be a killer since you are still not accustomed to what they limit you to. When out with family who do not understand photography, they won't be patient enough to wait till you get the settings/zoom right. By the time you are ready, they are already frowning.
However, if you are going to do street photography / landscape or staged portraits, then primes are the best! Higher quality glass, better low light capabilities, swee swee bokeh --> nothing can beat these.![]()
I think the phones have conditioned many of us that zooming is done by using our feet. So I guess prime lenses are gaining more acceptance, even to those that are new to photography. When I first started, cannot zoom seems like a real downer, but now I am hooked to prime's fixed focal way of shooting.
Funan.
TK Foto, SLR-Rev, Click.
Those I did not mentioned, don't bother OR at your own risk.
I would like to add qoo10, esp if you have the coupons - one can purchase a set with the kit lens for under $600.

yea i agree with you. Very used to no zoom if you shoot with your smartphone alot.
was playing around shooting and customizing my a6000 yesterday evening. Realize that i use the 35mmf1.8 for everything, think maybe can sell the kit lens away liao lol

yes, at the expense of sacrificing for local warranty (despite what the seller has said) and you are subjected to 7% tax as per usual.
I might be wrong though.
last i checked, Sony warranty is international only if you obtain a Tourist limited warranty kind which you have to register on the spot after you purchase at the country.

Check with MS Foto, Cathay, Parisilk too. They are not at Funan, but you can call / request for online quotes and they will honour their prices.
After the Xmas cashback promotion ended the last time I check most shops were selling the A6000 + Kit lens at around SGD $900 (cash only)
no chance to really go out and take pictures, just took a few random ones at home
do let me know if i did anything wrong

Just hop over to JB. I got mine from KL with the recent Sony promotion at M$2099(with kit lens). I also got a 50mmF1.8 OSS lens PWP M$699. 1 year international warranty. Just make sure u get it from those reputable camera shop and they'll do the GST rebate for you. I got back about M$150 after the purchase.
Incidentally, anybody pairing the a6000 with sigma 30mmF2.8DN? The price is significant lower compare to the SEL35mmF1.8. I am considering the sigma...
Yes, that's the sony promotion at M$2499. Goto those large camera retail shop. They offer lower price at M$2099. I got mine from midvalley mall. Two shops offer me M$2099. One shop didn't charge me for the use of Credit Card, so I got from him. In fact, he is willing to go lower if I pay cash.https://store.sony.com.my/promotionlisting.aspx
The promo is m$2500 with kit lens. If it was m$2099 I hoot 1. How does the GST rebate work by the way?

Need to show the camera shop your passport, they'll print a special receipt for you. Upon your departure at the airport, look GST rebate counter at the far end of the arrival hall. Show them the receipt and the item bought. Then they'll issue u a GST voucher. Bring the voucher with you till u pass the immigration. Look for the GST rebate counter (different one) and show them the voucher. They can cash the voucher into your credit card or encash it on the spot. Pretty painless process. BTW, they do rebate of 5% instead of 6% as they claim 1% is for admin. Hope this help.
