55mm is too narrow to use as a general lens. Unless u normally take wildlife

Walk around lens can consider sel1670z or selp18105g

For primes can consider sel24f18z or sel35f18


For my case, I only bring sel1670z and sel35f18 for vacation

16-70 will cover the necessary focal length for most scenarios. 35f1.8 is mainly for night photography or star gazing

currently using canon 700d with kit2 lens 18-135mm but thought of getting a sony a6000 cause I'm finding the 700d to be too heavy to bring around when traveling.

what would be good lens to get along with the a6000? don't really want too many lens cause find it a hassle to change..

mostly will use when going traveling.. landscapes/cities/group photos and maybe some night scenes as well.

follow hawthorne's recommendation 1 post above u...the 2 lense are what u need.

i took 18105 bcoz i can't afford the 1670 zeiss lens.

u can take the sel18105g...i bought it over the 1670 coz it is too exp.

Would suggest you keep using your kit lens. After a while u will understand your photography style and the limitations of the kit lens.

After that then u can decide what lens u shld get. Most beginners (me including when I just started taking photos) start going on a lens buying spree. After that u end up with a cabinet full of lens that u hardly use.

After u have decided on ur lens upgrade, then u can think about getting the ND/cir-pol filters for those lenses

You will have to use it in crop mode on FF. You then would not be able to make full use of the FF sensors MP, correct me if I am wrong.

Not a pro in phography. But I'm thinking of getting a low aperture lens that could possibly fit into FF in future without getting new lens.

can someone explain to me what is the effective focal length of the lens such as Sony 35mm f1.8? Is it 35mm? or do i need to multiple by 1.5x?

The focal length won't change its still the same, the angle of view changes (among other things) for different sensor size (reference to the traditional 35mm FF).

35mm on a FF will have a FOV of abt 63.

35mm on a Sony apsc will have a FOV of abt 44, as if its a lens with focal length of about 52.5mm. But its still a focal length of 35mm.

Multiply 1.5 when using a Sony APSC.
Canon think its 1.6x.
Olympus and Panasonic its 2x.
So if Full frame its a 1x.

AFAIK the crop factor gives u an idea of how wide or narrow the lens is on your respective camera bodies. Its confusing at first. U will get used to it.

I have the sigma 19mm f2.8 and it great. Bokeh is average but wide open it's pretty sharp throughout the frame unlike the kit lens. Stop down both the kit lens and the sigma will be sharp.

Better lens does not automatically equates to better IQ.

Would suggest u get to know your kit lens more. Get used to using manual mode and save up before u think about getting the lens

$200 can't get u very far. Might as well wait till u have the funds then buy one that is suitable for your photography style.

The kit lens is actually a reasonably ok one for Landscapes. The performance is quite ok at f8-f11.

Why don't u share some of ur pics and the settings u used for the bros here to assess.

What kind of photos did u take? Landscapes in poor light usually will need a tripod. Most of my shutter speed goes up in the range of 30s for iso100/ f8 and u need a tripod for this

If u only gave $200 to spend, u r better off getting a good tripod and a wired remote control

you can get second hand rx100 for less than 300 in carousel, and it is capable of handheld lowlight pics

You can look at sigma 19mm f2.8 with your budget. But if its a once in a lifetime trip, better to have backup camera in case your kit lens dies on you

TS already has an a6000 it has a much larger sensor then the rx100.

Your photos just show the poor dynamic range of the RX100
