I just started out in photography and bought the a6000 with 16-50 kit lens, considering buying a better lens
as the images arent very nice looking, especially in the dark. Is it the lens or beginners mistake?

Need to check the exposure.

Also, while there are no hard and fast rules, but abit of colors in skies nice, such as just before complete sunset / sunrise.

Hi, can someone suggest to me which lens shld i buy next?

I just started out in photography and bought the a6000 with 16-50 kit lens, considering buying a better lens as the images arent very nice looking, especially in the dark. Is it the lens or beginners mistake?

Im looking in to budget wide angle lenses (or lenses gd for landscapes) under 200sgd but cant really find much, so can you guys suggest some :D

Also, can you give me tips on taking better photos cause im taking this on my trip to Europe during the June hols, and would hate it if a once in a lifetime pic was blurry or of bad quality:eek:

Thanks in Adv!:D:D:D

can get sigma 16mm f1.4 (if you want landscape photo) or sigma 30mm f1.4 (if you want half portrait and half landscape). you need faster aperture like f1.4 so that you able to get better image at lower ISO. sigma lens provide excellent photo quality.

due to budget, i can only afford 7Artisans lens. found 2 the 35mm f1.2 and 25mm f1.8. both are within my budget range. read through lot of reviews on those 2, realize both have some short-comings like the quality at the corner isn't great but i could afford to ignore those short-comings. what really can't decide is which is better buy ?

35mm f1.2 has smaller aperture thereby better for low-light or night photography while 25mm f.18 has a better wide angle given the smaller focal length. most of my photo shots are on night photography, scenery, landscape, macro (like flowers) and not so much on portraits. so any users of those 2 lens can share some experience on which is a better buy. many thanks

Whats a reasonable price for 2yrs old a6000 with the 16-50mm kit lens? Looking to try photography.

Is the single kit lens sufficient for a noob? How long does thr battery last in practise?

that's $450 tops to me.
almost everyone starts with stock kitlens. the 16-50mm is sufficient for all round shooting.
the NP-FW50 batteries are known to deplete pretty quick because of their low capacity. probably 400 still shots

brand new A6000 body only selling $499, buy separate brand new SELP1650 kit lens between $190 - $200 (cheap as taken out from the bundle). if buy brand new bundle price is $749 now. probably you can roughly work out how much for the 2nd hand.

alternatively, you can buy the brand new A6000 body at $499 and separately buy the Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 (kit lens for A7). though this is for FF but somehow when put on A6000 the image quality is much better than the SELP1650 and even better than on the A7. price wise if you look for those take out from the A7 bundle, it should not cost more than $300 brand new. however, if you want the wide angle advantage of the SELP1650 (16mm vs 28mm) then stick with the SELP1650.

Thanks... now the used market i see are kinda overpriced.

Sony A6100 will be released end of this month with body only prices at $1029 and body + SELP1650 lens $1199. might push down the price of A6000 unless $499 is the base price already.

actually, not sure what type of photography you want to shoot (portraits, landscapes, street, macro, night, etc) so another possibility is get the body only then either buy new or 2nd hand the prime lens 35mm f/1.8 or the zoom lens 18-105mm f/4 (or you can try the new 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6) instead of the SELP1650.

35mm f/1.8 is probably the best Sony prime lens as of now and at 35mm (FF of 52.5mm) with maximum aperture of 1.8 very good in doing landscape, street, night and maybe portrait shoot).

18-105mm or 18-135mm has a wide range for you to play with and very versatile too. the downside is both are heavier than prime lens and also the SELP1650.

i also just jump into A6000 months ago and i bought the body only for less than $499 after putting into those discount vouchers etc. however, i did not get the SELP1650. i more into manual focus lens (tried 7artisans and Meike) as those are cheaper. quality wise is not the best for sure but for those value i'm ok with the quality, a trade-off that have to be made. i find more thrill in doing manual control and at the same time trying to train up photography skill. after that then buying into those more expensive auto-focus lens.

can't comment on the fuji set as never used before. as for a6000 + sel35f18, i believe if you search on the internet there is lot of good reviews on it. this one has a DxOMark of 23, considered quite impressive already. hmm...how should I put it ? 35mm on ASP-C is equivalent to 52.5mm on Full Frame. a Full Frame of 50mm is like what human eyes see (the wide and the distance). so if you mainly shoot landscape, street photo, day to day things and don't require lot of zoom in zoom out it is like just getting this prime lens and you can forget about rest of the prime lens.

if you want to play safe, probably spend a bit more to get either the 18-105mm F4 or 18-135mm F3.5-5.6. these 2 have good image quality throughout the whole range in particular the center sharpness. then you are cover in the focal length of 35mm just that you don't have the wide aperture of SEL35F18, something might be disadvantage for night or low light photography as typically people are using aperture of at least f/2.8 for night or low light shooting.

a cheaper alternative to the sel35f1.8 is the 3rd party prime lens sigma 30mm F2.8 EX DN, it has a DxOMark of 23 on A6000. if i'm not wrong you can find in lazada selling $200+ brand new. a difference of 5mm in focal length but the aperture is 2.8 vs 1.8. image quality is quite good also. sony is renowned for "expensive" stuffs so getting a 3rd party lens is a very good alternative. should be a "good and cheap" alternative for you to get started before splashing those cash on Sony lens. some of these 3rd party lens quality are not inferior to Sony.
