Hmm, i googled about it and it seems i need the Cat6 cable to link the transmitter and receiver together. It means the cable will run from room to living room.... this might not be ideal. But thanks for the suggestion - i found out there is this HDMI wireless extender, i'm exploring and see if it's workable.
Apart from accessing files and folders, i want to use the TV to open internet browser on the TV as well. Like i'm watching show and suddenly need to send an urgent email i can quickly switch channel and access my desktop in the room, on my TV. My Sony has built-in Chromecast but desktop is not on Win10, hence no Miracast.
Use some remote desktop app to do the job. You will face other usability problems.
Indeed it is not practical to browse internet from TV, the experience is not great even you use the remote mouse and touchpad to do the job.
For network file access, just install #Es file manager which comes with samba/FTP/cloud drive access.
Typing email with 2M away will strain your neck with eyes at far and keyboard near you, why don't you use your phone to do the job.
At the end, your family will hate you to use the TV to do other things than watching media.
