I guess it's up to the individual's tolerance level. For me, TVs should not behave this way, especially when i haven't even downloaded any software or did any hacks to it yet. And for the bug to happen so arbitrarily without any trigger i can think of, to me it is just not acceptable from a model that is not super budget, and a brand that is Sony.

Lol, yes, but i think i will wait long long, looking at all the forum feedback etc, until I'm sure this sort of problem no longer occurs. Alternately is to get a cheap dumb but big tv and a android box. But since a new tv will need more mounting holes, i will have to suffer more holes loh

I initially wanted the W800C as I felt that it would do since my main source is miotv. But pixel peeping aside, the X8500C does produce better contrast and the colours are deeper and more vibrant.

Did you try to calibrate /adjust brightness and contrast settings before making your conclusions? You should tune the TVs to the settings (better still calibrate them) before doing so.

At least based on the data from this website:

http://www.rtings.com/reviews/tv/lcd-led/sony/w800c

http://www.rtings.com/reviews/tv/lcd-led/sony/x850c

With the scores so close, it suggests what you are experiencing to be nothing more than the placebo effect. LOL.

Actually what you mentioned is probably a firmware issue that can be fixed pretty easily, unlike a hardware fault/flaw that cannot be fixed. Some patience will do. Alternatively you could have asked them to replace the TV or provide other alternatives/options before deciding. They might have offered you a cheaper upgrade, or some other good deals. Anyway as you said it's just a $1599 TV, at that price point can easily get some other budget TV after the refund.

Well something similar has been occurring since 2013, and it should be something really fundamental and difficult to solve in their subsequent models since the fix used then still worked now.

And they actually replaced my first set already, the problem recurred with the replacement set, so I got no mood to get a replacement yet again.

And hor, if they offer upgrade, it will be Android TV again, which I suspect could have similar issue.

If they offer freebies, I really dun have the need for more 3D glasses, wall mounts, bluetooth stuff etc, so I'll have to sell them off, but IMO these typically aren't actually very hot items to sell off, therefore will be troublesome and could just gather dust for ages... Unless they offer me something more realistic like additional rebates, or even better, a complete home theatre system package with surround sound, but that'll be wishing for too much bah :s22:

You're assuming the firmware issues are related when they are probably not. Th 2013 series are not android based. I meant change to another model or something, or a cheaper upgrade to a larger TV. I find it hard to believe that the entire batch of TVs have resetting issues. If that were the case, they would have recalled all sets.

My info is base on actual lcd panel spec.
For example. A LG 47in TV that I open up

Then you can google and start to find out who is the original maker of panel and specification of panel.

There is no misleading. Anything higher then 200Hz or for country that operate at 60Hz AC, you get 240Hz. Anything higher is by software only. Not physical refresh rate. This is why you gave a option in menu to turn it off. As it does not work well in all situation especially gaming.

Like I said the current panels used by Sony are not 200/240Hz so don't keep saying that unless you have seen specific specifications with those numbers, stop lying to people here.

Specs for Sony 2015 largely here: essentially 100/120Hz panels.

http://www.rtings.com/reviews/tv/lcd-led/sony/x850c/specifications

Only a few older models like the w904A I'm using is rated 200/240 Hz.

I've seen your comments on this forum and they have been largely inaccurate. You really should check your facts before you post. People may act on the erroneous info you give.

So you agreed Sony panel real hardware "speed" is only 100hz or 120hx and not even at 200hz or 240hz specification?

So specification of like 600hz or 1200hz are in fact software only feature?

Sometime in only takes to open up the set to confirm like this one from LG. The panel is not even LG.

Also, I suggest you get so real specification for set running at local or 50hz countries.

Take a chance to open up you set to confirm it!

Suggest you do a search on google on what it make a tv to operate 400hz and above.

This is just a sofware trick.

Fair point. I have not done any calibration and both TVs are out of the box settings. I'm pretty lazy so I've never been too concern with calibrations. Even my 40HWES that's projected on a 110" screen in my HT room is not calibrated. I'm happy enough with the out of the box settings. I probably won't do it unless some videophile is kind enough to help me with it. I do really enjoy watching Wimbledon on the XC8500C though and I think that's what we paid for anyway. Placebo or no placebo.
