Looking at getting 48W700C and 40R550 for my new house.

Was told that it uses external power unit like laptop types, will not be suitable for wall mounts.

Anyone have any issues with the external power units with wall mount and reviews on the 2 TVs?

Cant seem to find much reviews abt the 2 TVs, some places are not selling Sony TVs already.

My 1st Sony bravia bought in 2008 was 3 years and same as my bro who bought in 2010..I would say 3 years warranty is quite standard rather than being short change by Sony..

Price is a bit on lower side for a new launch but not sure they did that for a comeback in market share or a final rip-off before closing the shop.

I quited happy with my sony tv purchase. I don't mixed the reliability of the smart tv plaform like the same as i expected from a smartphone. What I see as long there is no serious light bleed ,clouding and banding issues. That is what a gd tv should be.

According to Sony website warranty conditions, accessories are not covered. External power supply (for those smaller sets) are not excluded from the exclusion.

Your one flick a free gift? Don't think there is a chance for free replacement.

Anyway, the exclusion of accessories, is in contravention of Sg lemon law. As I understand it. All product sold (excluding perishable goods), that includes remote control, should have a minimum period of 6 months coverage.

Below is an extract from Consumer Guides FAQ:

Under the Lemon Law, if a defect is detected within 6 months, it is presumed that the defect existed at the time of sale or delivery and the lemon law provisions apply, unless the seller can prove otherwise, or if such a presumption is incompatible with the nature of the goods (for example, perishables and food are not expected to last beyond their normal shelf lives.)

i doubt is battery problem. will get fresh battery to try. i hardly use it spoil already..sian

Anyway, been trying to hide as much of the useless Sony stuff on the Home launcher - anyone managed to get ride of the Games Hub?

For 3D, any idea how to enable it when viewing your own side-by-side 3D clips?
Looks like the option is unavailable using the built-in Videos app as well as within 3rd party apps like Kodi.

For 3D, any idea how to enable it when viewing your own side-by-side 3D clips?
Looks like the option is unavailable using the built-in Videos app as well as within 3rd party apps like Kodi.

On your remote press the Action Menu button, then on the on-screen menu, select 3D/3D display/3d (side-by-side). You have to turn this on/off for each input source before/after viewing your 3d content. The 3D signal notification option only seems to work with blu-ray or specific content playback.

power supply is indeed separate from the main tv unit (maybe so that they can achieve such slim form factor). It is the same design across w80 and w70 and several other Sony series. The main tv unit can still be wall-mounted. You have to figure out how to hide or place the additional power brick. The included TV stand is also the mounting bracket. I was under the impression that other VESA mounting brackets can not be used, but the included guide seems to say otherwise. Anyway, I didn't really read carefully so hard to say for sure.

Anyway, the Android TV platform appears to be buggy, even at the latest firmware. The w80c keeps forgetting the color temperature and ECO settings. Very frustrating, it is beginning to make me suspect it is faulty or something.

Me too. Read of people (old HWZ forum Sony TV thread) paying more to upgrade for VESA-compliant wall-mount in previous years when the installers arrive.

I think so too, e.g. in my case it's...sometimes the TV unable to properly utilize the wired LAN connection (not referring to speed; but rather, Network Diagnostics informed that the connection isn't Internet-reachable) upon 1st launch of any network-reliant app (e.g. YouTube). Only re-launching the app a few times (without me touching anything on the network eqpt side) makes the thing work.

Yes, noticed that the ECO mode seems to turn itself back to default off.
