RX100M3 and A6000 are different, not apple to apple comparison.

RX100M3 is a high end PnS. It allows the convenience of a small package and a large sensor (1" size) and a relatively fast lens. U cannot change the lens as it is a PnS. U can fit the RX100M3 quite comfortable in a cargo pants pocket

A6000 is a interchangable lens camera with an APS-C sized sensor. It is larger than the RX100M3, hence u still need to bring a bag out if u use the A6000. It allows u to change the lens based on the effect u want.

I have both the RX100 (1st generation) and A6000 and use them for different purpose.

If u get the A6000, u must be prepared to spend more on high quality lens As with all kit lenses, it has its limitations. E.g an E-mount CZ 16-70mm F4 will cost about $1300. A prime will cost less, a 50mm F1.8 is about $500

I started on the Sony mirrorless system from the Nex-3 days. Frankly, I would very much want to ditch the kit 18-55mm after using it a few times. The IQ is so-so only. It is too slow for my usage. The kit 16mm F2.8 is worse. The distortion at the ends is terrible.

I upgraded to A6000 without getting the kit 16-50mm as I already have a good collection of lenses for my useage. The kit 16-50mm has a worse IQ than the old 18-55mm.

Which camera to buy have to depend on what you want to use it for, and whether you are prepared to spend more in the future to upgrade

Do you have any links/reviews detailing the worse IQ of the 16-50 compared to 18-55? My understanding is that the former is a very decent lens for the bundled price.

Of course I can do that but I wanted a much faster way to focus on the spot I wanted without having to reframe.

That's fundamentally different parts of the brain use between someone who uses the viewfinder and one who uses the large LCD screen for framing

I'm one of those that only uses my viewfinder unless I'm in an awkward position that can't view thru the viewfinder

However there is one usage of LCD focusing that is attractive, when using the camera for video. Focusing based on touching the screen will be useful to a certain extent. Hopefully there is a good way to perform focus transition with different speed
