I have weak signals with my Sony Tablet S. No matter what I do, I keep losing connection. Makes it hard to stream videos. My netbook and laptop all works fine at the same location. It's just the tablet. Not sure why.

Sony had just released a new Tablet S firmware in US which is 4.0.3 Release 5.

From Sony US Blog:

- Guest Mode – Easily share your tablet with family and friends! You’ll notice in the upper right hand corner you now have an icon for guest mode. This allows you to create additional modes for your friends, children, family members, whoever. You can restrict or grant access to specific apps, and you can customize the wallpaper and icon layout for them.

- New media player applications (WALKMAN®, Album, Movies) – Our media players have been redesigned and offer some useful new features, so definitely check them out.

- New Small Apps – We have added more apps to the Small Apps feature. Now you can overlay a small browser, IR remote, calculator, voice recorder and timer on top of another app. You can also register and use widgets as small apps now.

- New macro functionality on the Remote Control App – We know our IR remote control app is very popular, and we have now made it even better. You can now add six programmable macro keys, which allow the ability to turn on multiple devices, including TV, Blu-ray Disc™ player and audio system, with the touch of one button. For example, you can program sequenced commands such as “Watch TV” or “Play Music.” You can also now choose a different skin for each device so you can easily distinguish between them.

- New widgets, including Topics – You will also notice new large widgets added to the Home Screen. These show more content, including Topics.

- Socialife – Social Feed Reader Cloud has been revamped as Socialife. This social news magazine app helps you discover your favorite news, videos and social networking feeds in one place.

- Watch Now – Make sure you download this app from Google Play™. Watch Now provides an interactive, visual program guide fueled by personal preference and real-time trends from your social media feeds. You can use it to discover new shows based on intelligent recommendations from the app, change the channel with a flick of your finger or share your thoughts on what you are watching via Twitter™, Facebook® or Get Glue.

You will also notice quite a few more little things, like a bunch of new icons and a better copy and paste capability.

Interestingly some users who upgraded to this new version in US mentioned about it solving the screen flicker issue and improve on wifi reception.

Although I don't have issues with wifi, I did encounter the screen flicker problem like between once to 5 times per day.

Any of you owners here also have the screen flicker issue?

Hi to all tablet s user.
Likely I may want to purchase this set since it is selling about $500 for the 3G version and come with standard freebies .

1)The staff told me it can read up to 32gb SD card max. So it is true ?

2) connection to external hdd is up to 120gb.

3) beside using the cradle and the supply power plug, it is still possible to charge using portable batteries ?

4)how long the battery can last on using 3G for surfing net and occasional video ( no playing of games )

1) Its true, some people from xda forum also claimed up to 64gb SD card though I never try it before.

2) Not too sure but I tried connecting to external 32gb micro-sd card and it works. Make sure the external hdd have its own dedicated power source as the tablet cannot power hdd with high power requirements.

3) Never try before but not really possible. The battery life is quite good for more than a day.

4) I would say its roughly more than 10 hours. Battery life varies depending on location where the 3G network is good or bad.

Im using sh broadband.

Previously I thought I have wifi issues where the wifi signal is weak on my tablet s when I am in my room with my router in living room. Then except my pc, my phones also received weak signal whether I am in my room or living room.

Later I found out that wifi works better on occasions when not everyone is using it or non-peak hours.

My family uses the following gadgets for wifi:

3 notebooks
2 ip4
3 android phones
1 tablet

I am using m1 fibre 100 Mbps . Even when there is no other devices connected to my home wifi , my tablet s still suffer from no wifi connection in my bedroom . As tablet does not come with Ethernet port , I expect wifi connection should be made better . Even my Nintendo 3ds also can connect my home wireless anywhere .
