yes you have to backup to google within 1ii, at least thats what i did, your apps can be restored easier after companion repair finish.

when i first migrated from n9 to 1ii using xperia migrate app, it was not easy, had to manually install back apps.

btw does you phone cam have click noise when you on the camera app? not sure if lens hardware is loose or normal??

Thanks for the head up, haha I wonder how you could hear that click noise. Yes mine do have that click noise as well. It only during the first time turning on the camera app. If I did not kill the apps, the subsequent opening don't have the click. Once you kill it, and reopen the app there is a sound again. I assume a shutter is closing the lens?

yes the click is quite audile coming from n9.

i also tested xperia (non scientifically) with and without motion blur reduction on 2 separate days.

the battery life dont seem impacted with the feature on for my use, mainly IM and samsung browser. without blur = 50% battery about 5 hrs sot. with blur = around same.

so i decide to leave it on, feels smoother when transistioning and switching apps.

imo compare stock camera and photo pro

stock got red tint, under exposed, darker shadows and have some sharpening

photo pro can tweak the exposure and white balance, but susceptible to hand shakes and softer output.

compare to n9, samsung is colder, have smoother digital filtering but resolves less details. but if share on social media type, both seems at the limit already.

Still need to click.... :s8:

Sony has confirmed that its Android 11 firmware rollout will start from December 2020. The first phone to get the update will be the Xperia 1 II, this year’s current flagship. Sony has also confirmed that the Xperia 1 II will be updated at the same time to support slow motion video recordings in 4K HDR at 120 fps (frames per second).

Both the Xperia 5 II and Xperia 10 II will see the Android 11 update from the end of January 2021, while last year’s Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 models will be updated from February 2021. There is no new news about any other models, so don’t expect Android 11 on any other Sony Xperia devices, including last year’s mid-range Xperia 10 and 10 Plus models.

Sony confirms Android 11 road map for Xperia series

https://9to5google.com/2020/12/01/sony-confirms-android-11-road-map-for-xperia-series/

So the current flagship Xperia flagship — the Xperia 1 II — will be first to the Android 11 update from this month (December 2020). Next up is the Xperia 5 II and Xperia 10 II, which will receive the latest OS update from the end of January 2021. The former flagship duo of the Xperia 1 and 5 will get their OS upgrade from January 2021.

Unfortunately, Sony didn’t give any information on the original Xperia 10 and 10 Plus — maybe support has ended for those devices. However, the Android 11 upgrade should be a pretty light one based upon Sony’s Android Pie and Android 10 builds. Sony did share the following new additions though:

-Chat management in one place. Important conversations with friends and family in different apps can be shown on the lock screen.

-Conversation bubbles. Conversations from any messenger app (provided the function is supported by the app) can now be pinned to the screen so that they can always be seen over all screen contents and can be used even better when multitasking.

-Screen recording. The recording of the screen in the form of a video is now supported directly in Android 11 and no longer has to be activated via a separate app.

-One app for all smart devices. Smart devices in the household such as heating, light or security systems can be controlled via an integrated app that opens automatically with a long press on the power button.

-Audio selection. Quick setup to control media playback. Simply switch from headphones to speakers with the push of a button so that no sound is missed.

-Voice control. Faster and easier access to apps thanks to intuitive voice commands – even without an internet connection.

-More security . Additional security and privacy updates are sent automatically and directly from Google Play to the Xperia smartphone, so that the latest protection measures are always installed.

-Easier access authorization for apps. Which applications are allowed to access confidential data and which are not can now be conveniently regulated using a one-time authorization. For applications that have not been used for a long time, all authorizations are automatically reset.

They each have their quirks and strengths, but dont think its "keeping up", it does very well on its own and in many instances manages to outdo the obscenely-profiteering-company Apple.

Only real gripe is Sony's computational photography way lacks behind most leading phone companies, which are more customer focused on idiot proofing their photos. :)
