Did camera comparison between 1III and 1IV. The 1IV lens did not paste tempered glass. Conclusion at the moment until the new firmware come out which rumored to solve the telephoto quality :

16mm, 24mm lens the 1IV did slightly better. Sharper and more details. As for the telephoto lens the 1III fared better for now.

Pictures for comparison. Top is 1III bottom 1IV.

Photo pro Auto ISO, AWB, HDR on. AI super resolution turned on for photos which need to zoom. 16mm

24mm

70mm (1IV zoom using 24mm lens)

85mm (1III use 70mm lens to zoom)

Its said firmware will be out to fix it as well as well as low light shots (https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_1_iv-review-2419p6.php), and probably because I use HDR on telephoto the stacking might not be that accurate but its not the case for the 300mm of the 1III, so thats not a good reason.

Display comparison its manual brightest is brighter than Xperia 1III brightest with adaptive brightness turned on. So when I turned on adaptive brightness on 1IV it is indeed very bright, but still need improvement under that super sunny situation. And here comes another challenge: the phone heats up quite easy (under hot sun 11am plus just now), and display was programmed to go dim (around 200nits?) but I turned ON GPS with Strava application and connected with bluetooth to my WF-1000XM4 whereas the 1III was in flight mode. Otherwise in normal operations without activating camera it ran ok.

Most heat comes from top center somewhere 3/4 of the phone (likely theres the processor)

wait so it gets hot even when it's on photo mode and not video mode? did it prompt that it needs to shut down the camera app to cool it down or something?

they should quickly find a patch to fix the heat issue  especially in hot countries like SG...

I'm actually shifting towards getting it after taking into consideration the free xm4 which can replace my 2 year old sennheiser tw2.

I was using Strava and GPS and playing bluetooth music while texting occasionally so it might generate heat more easily especially under hot sun. Phone was little warm, thats it. Only when I turned on camera and fiddled with settings it get heated and forced shut down. Guess I nearly maxed out the processing power haha. To give you a rough gauge, even the snapdragon 865 (Xperia 1II) forced shut down when I tested it under hot sunny day last time. And also need another week or so to let it learn my usage pattern.

did it (1ii) eventually get better...? like it has AI to manage heat generated based on your usage pattern.

I just don't want to spend $2k on a phone which is going to force shut down halfway through when I'm using normally (taking a few photos outdoors... or browsing web... or watching some youtube). it's ridiculous.
