Hi, anyone that bought the M5 phone in this year from M1 or any other Telco can share if they have the auto shutdown issue? Thanks.

Anyone has WiFi drop issue? Not sure is my router or just this phone. My other devices like iPhone, Apple TV, computer, ipad all no such problem. Tried many ways like factory reset, forget network etc etc..

Interested to know too, was eyeing this phone and then discovered this issue after googling for user reviews/opinions.

If you are those type with phobia of dropping and damage the phone like me this "low end " model is so difficult to get a good Casing unlike its higher end model.
The internal memory (2GB) too little easily fill up as not all things can put into sd card.
Ok lah maybe I suay since bought this phone giving me the battery problem so it leave me a very bad impression.
And now the wifi drop thing It make me wonder is the phone , OS or other !!

Another very important thing is Iphone more resale value. I always sell my iPhone to offset the newer iPhone every two yrs.
Of course if the phone is "free" with your contract then give it a chance Loh .

Internal memory is around 11Gb. Don't spout rubbish. Not bad for a mid end. Antutu scored 57k after updated firmware.

My iPhone not up for recontract yet so too pricey to get one with my existing cheapo crap Android having no resale/trade-in value :s13:

Plus, I need to replace the Android with another Android for work purposes that's why looking at the M5. RAM not really an issue for me since the current one I have has like 512MB :s13:

That's why if it can be confirmed that the new ones from telco doesn't randomly shutdown and browser works OK (can't really use the browser on my current phone), it still seems OK to me as the other issues you mentioned not really relevant to me. Yah, my current Android has basically set a very very low bar for expectations :s13:

Given that, would there be any other issues that you have with the phone to feel that it is still unsuitable from your experiences?

random shutdown is related to their battery so as long under warranty then you dont need to worry.. if the internal memory is not a issue to you then this is a very nice phone for the water proof feature and is Sony.

Seems like there are so many negative reviews here about this phone.

I also have this phone and affected by the battery lock issue previously. It was also very laggy and always crashes due to Android 5.0.

But after some visits to the Sony service centre to change the battery and the recent Sony software update to Android 5.1, now my phone run quite smooth and very satisfy with it. So if you buy the recent batch, things should have been ironed out already.

To balance out, let me list down all the pros for this phone.
- This is a mid-range phone and it is quite cheap for the feature that it has. You can even get it for FREE when doing recontract with the telco for some certain plan.
- It has primary camera with 21.2 Mega pixel and a fast auto focus. Picture quality is also good and comparable with Sony Xperia Z5.
- Battery life is good. Since I am a light user, on average, it can last for 1.5 day for my daily usage. Sometimes can even 2 days when I seldom use it.
- Someone said that it has problem with wifi connection, but so far I have not encountered problem with it.
- No problem with calls, gaming and browsing. However, this phone tends to heat up easily due to its use of Mediatek chip, so it may not been ideal for gamers.

Got mine for a couple of days, Android 5.1, baseband and kernel versions all dated late Jan 2016 so should be new batch already.

No issues so far although I've only used it lightly so battery lasts almost 2 days on a single charge. Tried the battery lock test to see if it has the hang/cannot restart problem but thankfully no such issue. Stayed alive even through certain stretches of the MRT when signal strength is known to be crap.

Definitely much much better than my prev Android.

i am contemplating this as a replacement for my Z2.

I would like the Z5 but abit unwilling to part wif the money. also seems that the camera and processor are abit faster than Z2 which i already am satisfied wif so even though its a mid ranger i am pretty okay wif.

The shutdown feature scared me off la. Maybe should just wait for the X series to launch then think abt changing...

So far using a bit more still never encounter shutdown problem, so new ones should be OK already I think. But since you can wait, maybe I can feedback again in another week or two if any problem come up before you decide.

Been quite happy with it so far after increasing my usage of it until it is my main mobile browsing and reading device. Is great not to have to worry about the phone getting wet when I am walk in a drizzle :D

I'm not into photography or watching video/listening to music so can't really comment on those aspect.

Only issue I have with the phone is the screen blanking out when I take a call and doesn't come back unless I press the power button. But this might be due to the screen protector, going to cut a bigger opening for the proximity sensor when I have the time and inclination.

Battery generally lasts me a whole day on days I pushed it without charging whenever I can, this is with full screen brightness most of the time due to the screen protector so for those who don't use a privacy filter, it should last longer with dynamic brightness.
