Btw do they provide replacement phone when you sent yours for repair

Sent from my under armour de underwear using GAGT

This is ****ing double standard. Just so you guys know, i have been told by customer service i am able to ask for a replacement phone as long as my phone is under warranty.

i recently asked coz my Z2 has a broken glassback, and i wanted to let them chop me for $80, and they also asked me to be at their mercy becoz they wanna make me wait 7 - 10 working days. Also, because i have no warranty, i am to put down a deposit for $200 for a replacement phone; if your phone is under warranty then no need.

But then again, they would just tell you at their front line "oh sorry Sir, they are all out at the moment"

The official excuse for 7 - 10 working days is coz their repair depot is elsewhere and they needa check for waterproof and ****. but 7 - 10 is still unjustifiable.

Local set. Under 1 yr warranty. Confirmed.
I took my M5 Dual to 313@Somerset and the service counter told me that Singapore does not sell dual sim. They only accept my phone after I paid $21.40 as assessment charge. They will check if they have spare parts for M5 Dual.

I am surprised that they repaired your phone.

Means yours is indeed an export set. The shop has done my registration. The shop name is recorded in their (Sony) warranty database. The staff photocopied my receipt and keep together with other documents.

Just received call from service centre. The repair for "sudden death" shutdown required motherboard change and battery change (should be due to new battery v4 design other forums talking about, i guessing). Cost $390+ almost like paying a second time. Not going to repair.

Expensive lesson learned ..... don't ever buy export set no local warranty, no matter how urgent i need the phone (for work or personal). stupid decision on my part.

That's always the risk when you buy an export set. If the phone is spoilt, you can either use it as a paperweight or bear high repair costs. :(

I was going to buy a Samsung Galaxy A7 today for $565, but kept thinking about whether I should just pay the $390 and have the M5 repaired ....

Collecting the paperweight tomorrow :-(

Maybe there's really too many M5 sent in to repair that they finished up the loan out stock! My bro's M5 also suffered the same fate...

I'm just thinking out loud ..... would the repair cost be lower after one year? Maybe I'll repair it one year later and use as a spare phone.

Repair cost is mainly: service + material cost

I am not sure how the these costs could be lower after one year, when all product costs are rising every year. :D

called customer service, and was told that the problem was the battery. Only affects the first batch (sep 2015) by and large :)

Considering of getting the M5, until I learnt about the battery issue. For those who received their repaired M5, how is it holding up so far? Anymore auto shutdown problem?

For around the same price, get the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016). The Sony Xperia M5 just had too many issues to repeat here. You can Google search any forums for "sudden death" issue, no end to the bugs.
