You have several ways to get Dolby surround or any other surround technologies.

You will need this few things

1) Optical Cable/HDMI or Coaxial Cable
2) An onboard sound that is able to playback any kinds of Digital Signals. OR alternatively a GPU with HDMI connections. Be it Nvidia or AMD.
3. A decoder such as an external decoder. Examples of decoder is AV receiver/external DAC.
4. Attached the cables from the PC I/O port the decoder. Decoder should be connected to either a 5.1 or 7.1/7.2 channel or perhaps a 9.2 channel speakers.

5. Lastly a good program that playback bluray/dvd movies that has Encoded Dolby surround or DTS.

I will explain in layman terms

Coder and Decoder comes from the word CODEC.

CODEC, in general is a data stream or signal for transmission, storage or encryption, or decodes it for playback or editing.

It means that your PC in order to play a sound, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby, DTSHD, DTS, etc needs to be Encoded and leaves the PC to the respective audio sources like AV receiver. The AV receiver then decodes back the sound that was output by the PC. This will allows the sounds to be channeled to the respective speakers.

Just a general idea on how it works. I hope i didnt confused you as i have tried to cut down a few steps of details.

thanks bro.

so i need to get the AV reciever and also a decoder?

Any good DAC to intro if I were to upgrade from Audinst MX1? Is the MX2 worth upgrading to? Will continue pair it with A5+ and S8.
